We are seeking a proactive Health and Safety Coordinator
to join a leading open cut mining operation in the Hunter Valley region. This is a permanent, site-based position offering relocation assistance to the Muswellbrook area.
About the Role
The Health and Safety Coordinator plays a pivotal role in supporting managers and supervisors to implement robust safety, health, and training systems, procedures, and policies. With a strong on-site presence, you will act as a trusted advisor, championing compliance and fostering a culture of safety excellence across the operation. This role is critical in ensuring statutory compliance, driving continuous improvement in health and safety outcomes, and promoting a culture where safety is at the forefront of every decision.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide expert advice, support, and assistance to managers and supervisors in the implementation of health and safety systems.
* Develop and implement hazard management and health and safety plans in line with legislative and company requirements.
* Champion hazard identification and implement effective controls for high-risk activities.
* Lead by example, maintaining a visible presence in the field and driving site-wide adherence to health and safety policies.
* Assist in developing and delivering the annual Health and Safety Plan and budget.
* Establish KPIs, reporting systems, and maintain internal auditing processes to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
* Administer the Drug and Alcohol Screening Program and coordinate responses when required.
* Manage workers' compensation and rehabilitation processes.
* Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including contractors, regulators, and the community.
* Support emergency response and crisis management planning.
About You
* Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety.
* Certificate in Rehabilitation Coordination.
* Strong knowledge of NSW statutory WHS obligations.
* Certificate in Health & Safety Auditing.
* Degree in Safety Science.
Skills & Attributes
* Proven ability to influence, lead, and build strong working relationships across all levels of an organisation.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Intermediate computer literacy, with MS Office skills essential.
* A decisive, solutions-focused mindset, with the ability to perform under pressure and manage competing priorities.
