About the role
We have a rare opportunity for a Chief Microbiology Scientist to lead and oversee departmental testing and operations while fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment in the laboratory. The role involves managing development, validation, and implementation of protocols, ensuring compliance with standards, strategic planning, and resource management.
Responsibilities
1. Manage the department's annual operating plan and financial budgets.
2. Monitor and report on financial KPIs.
3. Prepare and submit recommendations for capital expenditure.
4. Ensure staffing levels meet business requirements and KPIs.
5. Develop, submit, and implement a detailed annual business plan.
6. Oversee departmental testing, development, and validation of methods.
7. Maintain current scientific knowledge via journals, meetings, and market developments.
8. Ensure all work practices comply with NATA/TGA/NPACC standards and company systems.
9. Drive quality and workflow improvement initiatives.
10. Collaborate on recruitment, onboarding, and staff development.
11. Manage employee performance and morale.
12. Ensure service level agreements (SLAs) are met, including client requirements.
Candidate requirements
* Bachelor of Science or equivalent (AIMS Recognised).
* At least 6 years' experience as a senior scientist in pathology.
* Minimum 2 years in a senior supervisory role managing teams and KPIs.
* Proven leadership and motivation skills.
* Self-initiative, problem-solving, and continuous improvement capabilities.
* Ability to foster teamwork and knowledge sharing.
* Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
* Additional vaccination history may be required.
