Responsibilities
* develop and carry out nitrocellulose-based gun and rocket propellant analyses in support of current research programmes as directed by research chemists;
* perform analyses in support of the assignment of safe storage life extensions to gun propellants and ordnance;
* troubleshoot problems with analyses and instruments, manage instrument maintenance contracts, and ensure laboratory is stocked with consumables;
* interpret analytical results sometimes with reference to the appropriate Defence Standards;
* manage your own work within the propellants analytical laboratory, and work cooperatively with an analytical chemist engaged in the in-service surveillance of gun propellants for Defence;
* ensure compliance documentation required for the operation of the laboratory is in place and current.
Qualifications
Essential:
* Demonstrated knowledge and experience with HPLC.
* Demonstrated knowledge and experience in analytical chemistry.
* Demonstrated understanding of QA/QC as it applies to analytical chemistry.
Highly Desirable:
* Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with hazardous chemicals.
* Demonstrated knowledge of NATA accreditation (ISO/IEC 17025) and analytical chemistry.
Desirable:
* Demonstrated understanding of precautions taken when working with explosives.
