GenZ Energy is an Australian battery and energy storage company designing safe, reliable Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) solutions for demanding applications. Since 2016, we've delivered purpose engineered battery systems across mining, telecommunications, emergency services, rail, government, renewables and critical infrastructure, environments where safety, performance and reliability matter most. With strong local engineering capability and a growing portfolio of modular and integrated energy storage solutions, GenZ Energy is a trusted partner to Australia's critical industries.
About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Mechatronics Engineer to join our Perth-based team in Malaga and support the continued growth of GenZ Energy. This role plays a key part in the research, design, development, testing, and validation of GenZ Energy's LFP battery cells, battery products, and associated control and monitoring systems.
You will work across the full product lifecycle, from concept and prototyping through to production support, ensuring performance, safety, compliance, and reliability requirements are met. The role supports applications across military, mining, telecommunications, and critical infrastructure projects in Australia and export markets.
Key Responsibilities:
* Design, develop, and support LFP battery cells, modules, circuits, and peripheral control systems
* Plan and execute engineering work packages for new product development, continuous improvement, and innovation
* Contribute to improved design efficiency, performance, safety, and cost-effectiveness
* Plan, conduct, and document electrical, mechanical, and environmental testing
* Support prototype builds, product trials, and validation activities in workshop, laboratory, and production environments
* Diagnose and resolve faults, including root cause analysis of prototype and fielded products
* Maintain accurate engineering records, test results, design changes, and recommendations
* Interpret and apply relevant Australian Standards (AS), IEC standards, and regulatory requirements
* Prepare technical documentation including reports, work instructions, and manuals
* Provide engineering support to production for assembly, installation, and maintenance activities
* Support clients and internal stakeholders with technical integration, configuration, and application requirements
* Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, Logistics, and external partners to ensure alignment across design and delivery
* Identify and implement opportunities for product, process, and design improvements
* Stay informed on GenZ Energy's product roadmap and emerging technologies
* Participate in industry events, demonstrations, and technical engagements as required
Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
* Tertiary qualification in Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
* Experience in electronics design for industrial products, preferably in energy storage, high-power systems, or related fields
* Experience in software development for industrial applications, including embedded systems, automated testing, or data aggregation
* Exposure to battery design considerations (Lithium or Sodium-based chemistries highly regarded)
* Experience working with mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and engineering documentation
* Familiarity with embedded systems, PLCs, microcontrollers, or battery management systems (BMS)
* Experience with engineering design and simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or Altium
* Strong analytical, problem-solving, and root cause analysis skills
* Current C-Class Driver's Licence
* Eligibility to work in Australia.
