We are seeking an experienced HSE Officer to support the effective implementation and continuous improvement of Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) systems on our Ground Engineering project in Cairns.
The Role:
As a Safety Officer, you will be an integral part of the project team, providing support and guidance to ensure safe systems of work are embedded across site operations
This role suits a practical, approachable safety professional who is comfortable on the workface and committed to continuous improvement.
The Role
Key Responsibilities:
* Support the implementation of HSE policies, systems, and procedures across project sites.
* Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments to ensure compliance with WHS legislation and client requirements.
* Assist in the preparation and review of SWMS, risk assessments, and safety documentation.
* Identifying and reporting risks and hazards, ensuring timely investigation and implementation of appropriate control measures.
* Provide coaching and support to site teams, subcontractors, and workers on safe work practices.
* Investigating safety incidents and near misses, and developing and implementing corrective and preventive actions
* Assist Project personnel with Injury Management and RTW in consultation with the HSE Manager.
* Deliver inductions, toolbox talks, and safety training to build a strong culture of safety.
* Facilitate internal training programs as required
* Maintain accurate safety records and reporting for project management and clients.
The successful candidate will be a self-starter with:
* Minimum 3 years' experience in a similar role in the Construction Industry
* Minimum Cert IV WHS and Construction Industry White Card
* Strong written communication and report-writing skills
* Tech-savvy – comfortable using apps, safety platforms, and mobile reporting tools
* Great interpersonal skills – confident engaging and coaching at all levels and able to build strong relationships
* Positive attitude, self-motivated, and eager to learn and grow
* Ability to manage multiple / competing priorities & make quick decisions
* Drivers licence
