As the Controls Assurance Officer you will be responsible for contributing to the Bank's Second Line of Defence (2LoD) by performing the 2LoD assurance activities to assess and determine the effectiveness of the Bank's non-financial controls to mitigate the risk of compliance and operational failure as part of the annual assurance plan (Plan).

You will assess the effectiveness of risk management activities to meet industry standards, regulatory obligations, and Bank policies. You will also deliver any tasked assurance monitoring activities and their associated outputs as well as, being a trusted adviser to the business and challenge the status quo to question "why is that done" in a constructive manner, that leads to effective and efficient outcomes for the Bank.

Key Responsibilities

* Perform control assurance monitoring activities to evaluate the adequacy of controls and identify non-compliance, operational weaknesses and/or changes in the risk profile as per the Plan
* Assess the risks and controls in place, both in terms of design and operating effectiveness
* Compiling and issuing reports on the outcomes of assurance activities including raising issues, recommendations, and actions for control improvements
* Monitor any resulting remedial work arising from the control assurance activities and reviews, as per the annual Plan, and pursuant to the defined requirements and timelines
* Identify any emerging risks and/or trends across all business functions to assist the ongoing development of the assurance program
* Challenge and review of business units to develop effective and efficient controls
* Building, developing, and maintaining effective relationships with key stakeholders
* Contribute to the assessment of Material Risks throughout the Bank

About You

You are a proactive individual with a solution focused approach and ability to gain buy in from key stakeholders and influence change. Your ability to prioritize and manage your own timeframes, investigation and problem-solving skills sets you apart, as well as:

* Minimum 3-5 years' experience in a monitoring or assurance role within the financial services sector
* Experience with core regulatory legislation such as the Banking Act, ASIC Act, Corporations Act, National Consumer Credit Protection Act, AML/CTF, COBCOP, APRA Prudential Standards and the Privacy Act.

Skills and Qualifications

* Working knowledge of retail financial services products/services and related regulatory requirements
* Comprehensive knowledge of financial services legislative requirements in Australia, particularly AFSL, ACL, ASIC, COBCOP, APRA Prudential Standards, Privacy and AML/CTF
* Proven ability to analyse and interpret regulation and data
