Job Title: Community Health Educator
Job Summary:
This role is responsible for providing health promotion support to clinical staff in the development of health promotion and community engagement initiatives. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of Aboriginal health service provision and its relevance to health promotion.
Responsibilities:
* Community Education:
1. Develop and deliver health promotion programs and materials to address chronic diseases, nutrition, sexual health, alcohol, physical activity, and smoking.
2. Engage with the local community to identify and understand key health issues and health promotion needs.
* Team Collaboration:
1. Work with internal staff, community members, and stakeholders to develop and implement health promotion initiatives and community development strategies.
2. Provide support to individuals, families, and communities to undertake responsibility for their own healthcare needs using health promotion principles.
* Research and Evaluation:
1. Conduct research to identify priority areas for health promotion and evaluate existing initiatives to ensure effective services.
* Administrative Tasks:
1. Undertake electronic record-keeping of statistics to support performance measures required by funding organisations.
2. Assist in planning and coordinating events, promoting health calendar events, and health promotion topics using tools like Noongar Radio.
Requirements:
* Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background or strong cultural awareness.
* Certificate IV in Aboriginal Health or a Certificate in Marketing, Promotions, Public Relations, or Business.
* Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal health service provision and its relevance to health promotion.
* High-level verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
* Well-developed interpersonal skills and experience working in a multi-disciplinary, multicultural team environment.
* Willingness to undertake specialist training in Health Promotion.
* Computer literacy skills and knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Relations, and Equal Employment Opportunity Legislation.
* Current Working with Children Check, Western Australian Drivers Licence, Fully Covid-19 Vaccinated, and National Police Clearance (not older than 6 months).
