Overview
Beca HunterH2O, part of one of Asia Pacific's largest independent advisory, design and engineering consultancies, is looking for a Senior Engineer – Water Resources and Dams to join our Australian water team. Based primarily in the Newcastle office (with potential opportunities in Sydney or Brisbane), you will contribute to key water resource projects across Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific, supporting strategic planning, asset management and international development initiatives for potable water, wastewater, recycled water and surface water systems.
Responsibilities
* Deliver a range of water resources and dam safety management projects, including water security assessments, water resource planning studies, dambreak assessments, dam safety reviews and emergency planning.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to secure, manage and deliver projects.
* Build and maintain trusted, long‑term relationships with clients.
* Develop and mentor junior engineers.
* Stay at the forefront of technological developments, research and industry best practice.
Qualifications
* Chartered Professional Engineer (or in the process of becoming chartered).
* Bachelor's degree in civil, environmental or a closely related engineering discipline.
* Strong understanding of water industry standards and best practices.
* Outstanding communication skills and the ability to influence and drive successful project outcomes.
* Experience delivering projects in a consulting environment as part of multidisciplinary and multi‑office teams.
* Proven track record in the successful delivery of water resources and dams projects.
* Passion for developing, motivating and mentoring others.
* Trusted adviser to clients, working in partnership to improve strategic water resource and dams management outcomes.
Ideal Skills & Expertise
* Experience with bulk water supply infrastructure (dams, major pipelines, pumping stations).
* Experience with major stormwater infrastructure (detention basins, culverts, stormwater channels).
* Experience in surveillance of concrete and embankment dams / detention basins, including inspections and instrumentation data review.
* Understanding of risk management and the ability to identify project risks, design‑related risks and major infrastructure risks.
* Proficiency with industry‑standard software and systems for water resource / water security modelling, dambreak and consequence category assessments, and dam safety analyses.
