Overview
Suburbia Bakery is looking for a dedicated Assistant Baker to join our production kitchen in Fairfield.
In this hands-on role, you'll work closely with our Senior Baker to produce high-quality breads, pastries, and seasonal baked goods that meet our exacting standards of consistency, creativity, and quality. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your skills within a collaborative, supportive team environment.
Responsibilities
* Prepare and bake breads, pastries, and other baked goods following established recipes and techniques
* Assist with proofing, shaping, and baking of doughs as instructed
* Accurately measure ingredients and follow production guidelines
* Maintain consistency in product quality, portion size, and presentation
* Support the development and testing of new recipes under guidance from the Senior Baker
* Ensure workstations, equipment, and tools are kept clean and well-maintained
* Follow daily prep schedules and production plans
* Assist with receiving, storing, and rotating stock appropriately
* Support stock control by alerting the Senior Baker to low inventory or supply needs
* Maintain accurate labeling and storage of all prepared items
Health, Safety & Hygiene
* Follow all food safety and hygiene protocols, including the Suburbia Bakery Food Safety Management Plan
* Adhere to proper sanitation and cleaning procedures
* Assist with routine kitchen cleaning tasks and maintain cleanliness throughout service
Teamwork & Communication
* Work closely with the Head Baker and kitchen team to ensure smooth daily operations
* Maintain a positive, collaborative, and respectful working environment
* Accept feedback and actively contribute to continuous improvement
* Communicate any product issues or concerns to the Senior Baker promptly
What We\'re Looking For
* Previous experience in a bakery, café, or food production environment (preferred)
* Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
* Ability to work early mornings and follow production schedules
* Understanding of food safety and hygiene standards
* Willingness to learn and grow within a collaborative kitchen environment
* Positive attitude and strong communication skills
