**The opportunity**
Join CSIRO's Mineral Resources Research Unit as a Junior Geophysicist in the Discovery Program and contribute to groundbreaking projects in mineral and groundwater exploration. Work with a world-class team on geophysical data collection, processing, and interpretation, focusing on airborne and ground electromagnetic data for mineral systems and groundwater investigations.
We're looking for someone with expertise in industry-standard processing and inversion codes with sound understanding of the characteristics of ground and airborne EM systems with a passion for field programs and multi-disciplinary teamwork. You'll integrate geophysical data with geological, geochemical, and hydrogeological datasets, pushing forward new approaches to research in deep cover environments.
This role offers a unique opportunity to drive science outcomes and engage with key stakeholders in government and industry to address Australia's future mineral and water resource challenges. Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and a collaborative approach are essential.
The position will be based at the Australian Resources Research Centre, Perth, Western Australia, which offers outstanding facilities in a new and growing research environment. You will also have access to other world-class facilities based at the universities in Perth where CSIRO has collaborative arrangements in place, and at other CSIRO sites across Australia.
**High level duties**:
- Incorporate novel approaches to scientific investigations by adapting and/or developing original concepts and ideas for new, existing and further research.
- Contribute to the analysis of geophysical data from other areas in support of Program objectives.
- Undertake research aligned with the goals of the Discovery Program in CSIRO Mineral Resources and publish high quality scientific and/or engineering papers in quality journals and presentations at national and international conferences.
- Communicate effectively and respectfully in the interests of good business practice, collaboration and enhancement of CSIRO's reputation.
- Work effectively as an integral member of a multi-disciplinary, often regionally dispersed research team, to undertake scientific investigations and carry out/delegate associated tasks under broad guidance from more senior Research Scientists/Engineers.
- Lead small research projects and assist with elements of larger projects including the negotiation of resource requirements.

**Location**: Kensington, Perth, WA (Noongar Country) Hybrid / flexible working available
**Salary**:AU$96k - AU$109k per annum (pro rata for part-time), plus 15.4% superannuation
**Tenure**: Specified term of 3 years, full time (Options for part-time, job-share and flexible work arrangements can be discussed based on needs of role and individual circumstances).

**To be considered you will need**:
- Experience in the use of EM processing and forward and inversion codes.
- Ability to work with geospatial software and geodatabases.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, evidenced by high-level reporting, presentation and negotiation abilities, and the capacity to identify and influence critical stakeholders to gain support for contentious proposals/ideas.
