About the Role
Tronox is currently recruiting a regional Energy Trading & Compliance Lead to join our Kwinana Pigment Processing facility, approx. 35-minute drive south of Perth on a full-time basis!
The Energy Trading & Compliance Lead will play a central role in managing Tronox’s energy portfolio, ensuring optimal performance, regulatory compliance, and commercial value.
Key Responsibilities
Energy Trading & Market Participation
* Execute and coordinate gas nominations in line with timelines and operational forecasts.
* Monitor real-time electricity market data and price movements to inform trading decisions.
* Track site operational data to identify dispatchable loads and flexibility for electricity market programs.
Electricity Compliance & Risk Mitigation
* Ensure Tronox compliance with ERA and Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM) obligations.
* Act as the single point of accountability for energy market compliance, reporting to the Tronox Australia Energy Market Sub-Committee.
Strategic Energy Support & Program Participation
* Monitor WEM bulletins and regulatory updates for new revenue opportunities or rule changes.
* Assess eligibility and prepare business cases for participation in programs such as Demand Side Response, Supplementary Reserve Capacity, and Capacity Credits.
* Collaborate with internal stakeholders and third parties to deliver energy-related value initiatives across Tronox sites.
* Contribute to long-term energy planning, including renewables integration and decarbonisation strategies.
Stakeholder Engagement & Coordination
* Liaise regularly with internal teams (Operations, Supply Chain, Finance) to align energy strategies with business objectives.
* Engage with external stakeholders including gas suppliers, AEMO, and ERA.
* Coordinate with Operations and Engineering to validate technical feasibility for energy programs and trading strategies.
Reporting & Governance
* Lead or support regulatory audits and contract reviews.
* Develop and maintain energy trading and compliance strategy documents.
* Support budgeting and forecasting processes for energy costs and savings.
About You
Qualifications & Experience
* Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Economics, Finance, or equivalent relevant experience in energy markets. Essential)
* Minimum 3+ years of experience in energy trading, portfolio management, or regulatory compliance. (essential)
* Proven ability to deliver commercial value through trading strategies and compliance oversight.
* Experience working with energy infrastructure assets such as cogeneration, renewables, or dispatchable loads is desirable.
* Certification in energy trading or regulatory compliance (e.g., AEMO, ERA) is advantageous.
Skills & Attributes
* Strong understanding of Australian energy markets, including gas and electricity trading mechanisms.
* Solid knowledge of regulatory frameworks, particularly Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM) and ERA obligations.
* Analytical mindset with commercial acumen to identify trading opportunities and manage risk.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work across internal teams and manage third-party suppliers.
* Highly organised, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
* Detail-oriented and committed to maintaining governance and compliance processes.
