This Deputy Chief Medical Officer role offers an opportunity to influence strategic clinical decision-making while supporting complex Antarctic, sub-Antarctic, marine and aviation operations, and to lead and innovate in polar and remote medicine as part of a passionate, highly skilled multidisciplinary team providing medical screening, 24/7 telemedical support and operational healthcare.
The Deputy Chief Medical officer works with the Chief Medical Officer and other members of the PMU in leading, advancing and supporting a comprehensive medical practice for personnel engaged in Australia's Antarctic Program and related activities. This includes provision of medical screening and approval processes for Antarctic and subantarctic AAP participants, rostered 24/7 telemedical support and the provision of medical facilities and supplies for all station, field, vessel, and aircraft operations. The Deputy CMO also facilitates and participates in Polar Medicine research programs. The Deputy CMO will be required to undertake duties as the Antarctic Medical Practitioner (AMP) on Antarctic and other related ship voyages and/or summer station, air, and field programs.
The Deputy CMO engages with a range of clients within the AAD, in Australia and Antarctic locations, and with a range of external clients.
Mandatory qualifications:
* Current Full Unrestricted General Registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
* Fellowship of a relevant Australian medical college, e.g. FACRRM, FACEM, FAFOEM or equivalence (candidates near completion of Fellowship will be considered).
* Evidence of maintenance of Professional Development and Clinical Practice in a relevant scope of practice.
Eligibility and other requirements:
Citizenship - to be eligible for employment with the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water you must be an Australian citizen.
Security Clearance - this position requires a Baseline Vetting security clearance. You will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
Mandatory qualifications – your suitability for employment will be dependent on you holding relevant mandatory qualifications.
Pre-employment checks - your suitability for employment will be assessed through a pre-employment screening process. This process includes a requirement to undergo and satisfy a National Police Check, referee checks, character clearance and where required a pre-employment medical assessment, specified mandatory qualification(s) validation and a probation period.
