CalEnergy Resources (Australia) Limited, a subsidiary of the Northern Powergrid Group of Companies and part of the Berkshire Hathaway Energy (BHE) group, is recruiting for a full-time permanent General Manager Renewables - Asset Management and Delivery to deliver outstanding operational and financial management of invested assets.

CalEnergy has been operational in Australia since the early 2000s. Whilst their Australian history has sat within natural gas primarily, the future pathway is into renewables. Technology-agnostic, they have already invested and acquired the Gunnedah and Suntop Solar Farm totalling 345 MWp in New South Wales.
CalEnergy locally manages different stages of project and asset maturity as part of the BHE strategy to invest in growth opportunities and acquire projects or assets that are additive to our business.
CalEnergy has established a framework to build out a growing renewable energy generation and storage pipeline in Australia.
**Purpose**
This position is a key member of the business development directorate with four primary accountabilities:
- Operational Excellence - management of a growing and diverse portfolio of assets to provide reliable, safe, and resilient energy to our customers.
- Financial Strength - optimisation of financial returns on Company's existing renewable energy generation investments, including management of contracted offtake, merchant generation and LGCs.
- Safety & Security - striving for Target Zero so that each employee or contractor returns home safely each and every day, without incident.
- Regulatory Integrity - working with relevant governments and agencies to pursue legislative and regulatory policies that spur innovation and technologies that advance the development and deployment of low and noncarbon energy solutions.
The role has a remit for an Australia-wide portfolio of invested renewable generation and storage assets.
**Responsibilities**
- Manage invested renewable generation projects in Australia in line with acquisition promises, budgets and plans
- Represent the Owner as it pertains to third party contracted Asset and O&M Management; and deliver best in class operational asset performance
- Assess the technical and operational viability of new projects and acquisition opportunities.
- Coordinate the development of asset reports, financial models, and investment cases
- Provide operational and asset management advice in support of capital deployment, financial transactions and negotiations with lenders and guidance on economic evaluation of existing and new projects.
- Responsible for the operational and capital expenditures associated with owned assets and infrastructure.
- Operational and financial reporting and compliance spanning regulatory, debt financing (covenants) and internal governance
- Management of asset contracting and procurement activities
- Owner of asset EHS plans and performance, risk registers and technology plans
- Functional responsibility for developing inhouse capability and resources with respect to renewable energy asset management and operations
- Engagement with external stakeholders such as regulatory, local communities and landowners.
**About You**
This role would suit an experienced manager of operating electricity or renewable generation or transmission network assets in Australia. You will be a specialist in renewable energy asset management and operations with direct Australian experience in renewable energy project development, project management construction and operations.
- Demonstrated experience of managing the development, construction and operation of renewable energy generation and electricity assets in Australia
- Demonstrable operational EHSQ management experience in utility scale electricity generation. Extensive knowledge of applicable legislation and regulation.
- A broad, deep understanding and working knowledge of the electricity market, operational and and commercial landscape across at least one of, if not both of, the National Electricity Market (NEM) and the Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM)
- An acute understanding of the opportunities and challenges for connecting to the grid, constructing, and operating renewable energy generation projects in the Australian electricity market.
- Deep familiarity and working knowledge of managing, operating, and maintaining utility scale electricity generation assets.
