Role Overview
Our Geelong team has an exciting opportunity for a Project Engineer / Design Engineer to join them and play a key role in delivering high-quality process plant layouts across food manufacturing facilities.
This role is ideal for an engineer or designer who combines practical plant design knowledge with strong AutoCAD skills, and who enjoys collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver efficient, compliant, and constructible solutions. You'll support the design and delivery of new plants, upgrades, and brownfield modifications in operational food manufacturing facilities.
Responsibilities
1. Develop process plant layouts, including equipment arrangement, material and personnel flow, access, and services coordination
2. Produce and maintain detailed AutoCAD drawings, including:
3. General arrangement (GA) drawings
4. Equipment layouts
5. Process flow and layout coordination drawings
6. Collaborate with process, mechanical, electrical, and construction teams to ensure designs are practical and buildable
7. Apply food safety, hygiene, and regulatory requirements (e.g., cleanability, zoning, access, segregation) to layouts
8. Support projects from concept and FEED through to detailed design and construction support
9. Participate in site visits, layout verification, and design reviews with clients and contractors
10. Maintain drawing standards, revisions, and document control
Qualifications
11. Degree or diploma in Engineering, Design, or a related discipline (or equivalent industry experience)
12. Proven experience in process plant layout design, ideally within:
13. Food and beverage manufacturing
14. FMCG or hygienic process industries
15. Strong AutoCAD skills with demonstrated experience producing complex plant layouts
16. Solid understanding of:
17. Process equipment arrangement
18. Material and personnel flows
19. Maintenance access and constructability
20. Ability to interpret process information (PFDs, equipment lists, specifications) and translate it into effective layouts
21. Experience on brownfield projects in operational plants is highly regarded
