PoM is committed to ensuring its infrastructure management operations are sustainable, responsible and fit for purpose to support the ongoing and growing Port of Melbourne.

ABOUT THE ROLE

A unique opportunity has arisen for an experienced person to join our maritime operations team in the role of Vessel Master. The role will provide support services to our Hydrographic Surveyor sand other internal clients encompassing a range of sea-based tasks.

Reporting to the Senior Vessel Master and working within a small and supportive team based in Williamstown, this role will require you to use your extensive maritime experience to respond to the high priority needs of a multitude of business units.

What you will be doing:


• Utilise electronic navigation systems to monitor course and helm for the efficient acquisition of hydrographic data


• Ensure compliance to vessel Safety Management Systems, monitor, supervise and/or undertake vessel maintenance to ensure compliance to Australian Maritime Safety Authority standards while maintaining vessel records.


• Assess, monitor and perform maintenance of floating plant machinery and safety equipment as required and in consultation with the Senior Vessel Master and required contractors.

The successful applicant will have:


• Minimum AMSA Certification: Master <45m Near Coastal or Master <24m Near Coastal


• AMSA Marine Engine Driver Grade 2 Near Coastal


• Safe Transport Victoria Local Knowledge Certificates for declared waters of LK16 and LK18.


• Safe Transport Victoria Local Knowledge Certificate for declared waters of LK15 preferred but not mandatory.


• Current AMSA Certificate of Medical Fitness – Domestic Seafarers


• ACMA Long Range Operator Certificate of Proficiency (or higher)


• HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation


• HLTAID011 Provide First Aid Certificate (or higher)


• Current Victorian driver's licence

This role would suit an enthusiastic and qualified vessel master with experience in operating domestic commercial vessels. Candidates will have extensive knowledge of Port Phillip, Fairway through Port Phillip Heads and Port of Melbourne waters..
