The Role will be in the Health Surveillance Cell within the Directorate of Force Health Protection (DFHP). The incumbent will report to the Assistant Director Health Surveillance. They will work alongside a Data Scientist and Health Promotions Officer to assist in the development of a Health Surveillance System for the Australian Defence Force (ADF). They will manage health and administrative data to support health burden identification.The successful candidate will be able to extract and analyse health data from multiple sources. They will utilise analytical tools and techniques to cleanse, administer, monitor, manage, and archive this data. They will work with other teams across the Branch and stakeholders throughout Defence to identify opportunities for leveraging existing data to produce solutions for defining the health of ADF members.About our TeamThe Force Health Protection Directorate sits within the Health Protection and Policy (HPP) Branch, Joint Health Command. This newly established Directorate will be responsible for supporting and delivering Force health protection capability to optimise the health and health readiness of ADF members. The Directorate comprises five cells: Health Surveillance, Public Health and Disease Control, Environmental Health, Occupational and Musculoskeletal injury, and Health Promotion.The Directorate will coordinate an ADF-wide health surveillance system to support relevant policy and programs. It will provide technical advice and actionable insights on disease burden and prevention strategies. It will also provide operational support for population health activities and public health responses within the ADF.Our Ideal CandidateOur ideal candidate is motivated and enthusiastic, capable of working effectively in an integrated and multidisciplinary team.They will demonstrate:Well-developed communication skills to convey complex data insights effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders in various formats;Experience in extracting, interrogating, and analysing complex datasets using software such as R, Python, SQL, etc.;Expertise with visualization tools (PowerBI including DAX, Power Query, and/or Tableau) for building and managing dashboards and reports;Experience in exploratory data analysis, descriptive and statistical analysis, especially with health data;An understanding of the Defence and health environment; andStrong interpersonal and communication skills for stakeholder engagement, along with the ability to plan, manage, and prioritize tasks for timely delivery.Application Closing Date: Monday 19 May 2025
