The Role
Our client is a family-owned and operated enterprise, managing a total of 3,300 hectares of mixed agricultural land in Keith, South Australia. Their operations consist of
* 545 hectares utilising border check flood and centre pivot system irrigation primarily focused on the production of lucernce seed and hay.
* 600 hectares dedicated to dryland lucerne seed and hay production
* 1,400 hectares of pasture and grazing land for prime lamb production
* 800 hectares of winter cropping consisting of barley, wheat, canola, oaten hay and legumes.
The primary role of the Livestock Manager is to support the Farm Operations team in the effective implementation and management of livestock production, property development, and business plans. The farm features excellent infrastructure, including a renovated shearing shed and three sets of Magnus sheep yards, with the main set covered, along with a Clipex handler and weigh crate that utilises Gallagher software.
Key responsibilities include management of 5,800 first-cross and Merino ewes for prime lamb production. This includes various activities such as supplementary feeding, grazing and pasture management, joining, scanning, crutching, shearing, and lamb marking. The Livestock Manager will use low-stress handling techniques and maintain a conservative stocking rate to ensure livestock health, optimise nutrition, and maximise returns.
Staff education is encouraged when opportunities arise. A neat workplace, attention to detail and communication with livestock agents, consultants, and contractors are essential. The manager will maintain livestock records using AgriWebb and assist the team with property development projects, including sheds, fencing, irrigation, weed control, vermin management, and general maintenance. They will assist with preventative maintenance for machinery and vehicle and help with machinery operation as required. Regular communication with the farm manager and other team members is expected.
This opportunity is available for a junior manager or assistant manager who is eager to develop their skills and advance to a managerial position. Comprehensive training will be provided for candidates who meet the qualifications.

* Demonstrated expertise and experience in all aspects of sheep husbandry
* Maintain a positive demeanour, complemented by strong communication and organisational capabilities
* Exhibit exceptional interpersonal skills and a keen attention to record-keeping, with the ability to engage in forward planning
* Possess a self-motivated work ethic, capable of operating independently while effectively collaborating within a team environment
