Senior Network Engineer

The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for designing and ensuring the performance of Optus's transport network, supporting voice, data, and video services for both fixed broadband and mobile customers. The role focuses on accurate and efficient provisioning of telecom network services, adherence to operational standards, and driving automation to enhance reliability and scalability.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver accurate and efficient provisioning of IP/MPLS circuits and services across multi‑vendor platforms (Juniper, Cisco, Nokia) in line with design and planning requirements.
* Develop and maintain configuration templates, automation scripts, and workflows using tools such as Cisco NSO and Red Hat Ansible to streamline provisioning tasks.
* Maintain accurate records of network configurations, processes, and changes; ensure alignment to change management procedures and quality standards.
* Diagnose and resolve provisioning issues, assist with root‑cause analysis, and support escalations from NOC and operations teams during rollout or change activities.
* Work with architecture and planning teams to validate service feasibility and capacity; interpret design documents and translate them into low‑level configurations.
* Participate in audits, training sessions, and workshops to enhance technical skills and contribute to process improvements in network provisioning.
What You Bring
* Relevant professional qualification in Telecommunications, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent extensive industry experience with a proven background in telecom environments.
* Solid understanding of IP networking, routing/switching, MPLS, SRv6, ISIS, traffic engineering, and multi‑vendor platforms (Juniper, Cisco, Nokia); exposure to mobile IP (2G‑LTE), VoIP, and transmission technologies.
* Hands‑on experience with SDN frameworks and automation tools such as Cisco NSO and Red Hat Ansible for provisioning and configuration.
* Logical thinker with advanced troubleshooting skills, capable of supporting design teams and resolving complex provisioning issues.
* Clear communicator, customer‑focused, self‑motivated, and team‑oriented; strong organisational skills with accountability and adaptability.
* Proficient in MS Office and IT tools; committed to ongoing technical development and collaboration within cross‑functional teams.
