About the opportunity
Since the founding of veterinary science in 1910, the mission of the Sydney School of Veterinary Science (SSVS) has been to provide the nation's best training in the health, welfare, and conservation of animals. The School is internationally accredited with the American Veterinary Medical Association, Canadian Veterinary Medical Association, Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (UK) and the Australasian Veterinary Boards Council. Veterinary science at Sydney is ranked 1st in the Southern Hemisphere and 21st in the world, according to the QS World University Subject Rankings 2025.
The School is currently seeking to appoint a Research Associate in Veterinary Science to complete the collection of data for a VetCompass project concerning chronic kidney disease (CKD) in Australian dogs and contribute to publication of results. The work is being performed in conjunction with a team in the United Kingdom and a pharmaceutical company.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
* work with local clinicians and epidemiologists as well as those at the Royal Veterinary College who are engaged in a parallel project
* examine possible cases of canine CKD on the VetCompass database to identify whether individual dogs have the disease
* for confirmed and likely cases of CKD, collect further data on medical history, clinical findings and outcome
* regularly update supervisor via email with progress on case examination and prepare short reports for the funding body
* attend monthly Zoom meetings with the broader project team (UK morning time)
* contribute to summation and publication of results in a peer‐reviewed journal
About you

* a degree in veterinary science
* a PhD in Veterinary / Animal / or relevant Biomedical Science, along with evidence of research output is desirable but not essential
* a strong background in teamwork
* a solid understanding of canine and feline clinical veterinary medicine
* practical experience with clinical research and use of computers to collect and manage data
