MidCoast Council is offering Traineeship and Apprenticeship opportunities for 2026 in Engineering Fabrication. This is a hands-on role that provides on-the-job training, mentorship, and a pathway to a formal qualification while you earn and learn.
Role
The role
At MidCoast Council, you’ll work with a range of machinery, tools and equipment. You’ll be trained by skilled tradespeople who will support you throughout the program, helping you develop real-world skills and a foundation for your career. Many apprentices go on to long-term roles with the council.
Responsibilities
- Use tools to cut, grind, weld and shape metal
- Help repair and maintain machinery and equipment
- Work on real projects that support the community
- Learn to read plans and maintain safety in a workshop
- Develop skills through on-the-job learning and formal study
Qualifications / What we’re looking for
- Enjoys practical, hands-on work
- Strong interest in how things are made or repaired
- Holds a Manual Drivers licence
- Motivated to learn and build a long-term career
- Proven commitment and effort in school or other activities
Pre-employment requirements
Pre-employment basic skills assessment and medical check are required (medical includes drug and alcohol test, sight and hearing, and functional/medical assessments).
Program details
- Duration: 4 years, full time 38 hours per week
- Qualification: Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade (nationwide recognised)
- Salary: approximately $31,288 to $53,196 per annum, under the Local Government (State) Award. Superannuation: 12% add-on.
- Location: Taree Depot, Arkwright Crescent, Taree, with potential placements at other MidCoast Council sites
- Tenure: Full-time over 4-year period
- Starting date: Successful candidates commence on Tuesday, 27 January 2026
