The Role
The Maritime Integrated Warfare Systems (MIWS) Branch is seeking professional, motivated and experienced EL 1 Engineering Professionals to support the delivery and sustainment of cutting edge capability.

You will be part of a dynamic team overseeing the update, upgrade and upkeep of integrated warfare and combat systems for the Royal Australian Navy's surface fleet, and their related support systems. This may include the coordination of maintenance activities with the OEM, in regional maintenance centres, at the waterfront, or out at sea.

Ideally, you will have a maritime background, with experience across one or more of the following; marine engineering, mechanical or combat systems, electrical, communication, mechanical, and mechatronics.

Engineering Maintenance Professionals (incl. Principal Maintenance Manager (PMM), Maintenance Support Manager): These positions are responsible for the assurance of Organic and External Maintenance activities for combat systems across the in-service surface fleet as well as the day to day engineering maintenance tasks and activities including regular and corrective maintenance. Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

- Ensure that planned, urgent and rolling maintenance activities align with the baselines set by the Principle Engineer (PE), and are in accordance with MIWS Authorised Materiel Seaworthiness Delivery Organisation (AMSDO).
- Assurance of external maintenance periods and organic and external condition based maintenance activities, in collaboration with various stakeholders including: Class Lifecycle Engineer Officer (CLEO), Regional Maintenance Centres (RMCs), PE, and Principle Support Manager (PSM).
- Assurance of maintenance systems for new products acquisitions.
- Ensure risks associated with deficiencies in specific elements of the maintenance regime are articulated, mitigated So Far As Reasonably Practicable (SFARP) and escalated if necessary to the relevant authorities.
- Engage effectively with the PSM and the PE to achieve a coordinated AMSDO response to the requirements of the Operating and Support Intent (OSI) and the Materiel Support Management Plan (MSMP).

Engineering Professionals (incl. Engineering Manager, Engineering Subject Matter Experts): These positions will play a critical role in managing complex engineering and project activities and provide expert engineering advice, implement technical governance, and oversee engineering processes to ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks and Defence policies. Leading a team of engineers, you will drive capability outcomes through stakeholder engagement, risk management, and the integration of engineering solutions across the capability lifecycle.

This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement (DECA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. Note: This position will be required to access US export controlled materiel and therefore applicants will be requested to disclose any dual citizenship with another country during the recruitment process. Dual citizens may be subject to further assessment and appointment to this position will be conditional upon approval to access US controlled export material in accordance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

MIWS Branch under Major Surface Combatants and Combat Systems Division is an exciting and complex environment to work in, offering a rewarding career in one of the most dynamic organisations within NSSG. We work across both Acquisition and Sustainment environments to develop and deliver products into current shipbuilding programs and to provide update, upgrade and upkeep of products to the existing Navy fleet, giving staff exposure to a wide variety of high profile maritime projects.

The various Directorates manage products and projects across the following categories of systems; Weapons, Accelerated Strike, Phased Array Radar (PAR), Above Water Sensors (AWS), Navigation, Under Sea Warfare (USW), Communications, Electronic Warfare (EW) and Enterprise Training.

- Demonstrated engineering experience in support and maintenance within an Authorised Engineering Organisation and an Authorised Maintenance Organisation.
- Experience in Navy sustainment.
- Engineering experience and insight into combat systems, other integrated warfare systems and/or engineering management of major systems integration
- Ability to lead a diverse team and to mentor staff.
- Mature judgement, professionalism and high level interpersonal skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to build and sustain successful working relationships.
