About the role Finding better ways to provide the materials the world needs. We are looking for a Manager Land, Water & Facilities to provide environmental project management leadership for the Ranger Rehabilitation Project. You will provide oversight of regulatory monitoring and reporting, including land management, water management, waste management, revegetation, ecosystem restoration and knowledge retention activities. You will also oversee the provision for site travel, accommodation and management of associated camp facilities. You will contribute towards formulating environmental management and post-closure strategies, ensuring compliance with the project plan, schedule and budget as well as driving innovation and fit-for-purpose change to support project objectives. You will also lead a team of Superintendents overseeing 50 employees and contractors. Reporting to the Senior Manager Ranger Rehabilitation, you will: Lead people and manage the Land, Water and Facilities portfolio in line with Rio Tinto’s company values, fostering a culture of accountability and ensuring high performance, collaboration, and alignment with project goals Deliver project objectives, commitments and schedule milestones on time and on budget, including monitoring and reporting requirements, environmental field activities, water disposal activities (e.g. wet season water releases) as well as provision for travel, accommodation and camp facilities Establish and maintain post-closure strategies and plans, including delivering associated socio-economic transition objectives and post-closure readiness Lead engagement and coordination with Rio Tinto’s Study team on all aspects relating to environmental management in line with study outcomes Contribute to engagement and negotiations with regulators, government agencies and other external key stakeholders with relation to current and future environmental management activities Optimise value and capital efficiency by applying practices that optimise our way of working and support value creation through sound technical evaluation and project execution strategies Ensure safety and risk management by applying systematic hazard and risk analysis processes to support safe, compliant, and effective management of current and emerging threats and opportunities What you’ll bring Your technical expertise, project management and interpersonal skills will enable you to lead the Land, Water & Facilities department and deliver project value through: A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team Science or Engineering degree (or similar) Extensive experience with environmental management practices in mining (or related) Strong leadership skills and proven ability to drive accountability, coupled with demonstrated negotiation and influencing experience Creating value with a combined commercial and project mindset Broad experience in project management end-to-end lifecycle, and experience across Major capital projects will be highly regarded Strong stakeholder engagement and communication, translating technical information for broad target audiences Strong knowledge of project delivery and safety systems, including hazard and risk analysis, schedule and budgeting tools and processes as well as integration with key project functions If you are excited about the role though your experience doesn't align 100%, we still want to hear from you. In January 2021, ERA ceased all mining and processing activities at Ranger after 40 years of operation with the focus now shifting to rehabilitation. The Ranger Rehabilitation Project is committed to the rehabilitation of the Ranger Project Area to a standard that will establish an environment similar to the adjacent Kakadu National Park. In 2024, ERA entered into a Management Services Agreement (MSA) with Rio Tinto to manage the Ranger Rehabilitation Project, which will build on ERA’s existing rehabilitation work with Rio Tinto’s technical expertise in designing, scoping and executing closure projects. We remain committed to working with all key stakeholders, including the Mirarr People to complete this important rehabilitation work.
