Job description

Responsible to the Clinical Director – Women’s and Children’s to provide high‑level strategic leadership and direction, ensuring resources are efficiently utilised, services are effectively integrated within the hospital/service and the highest standards of service delivery are achieved in accordance with policy, service standards and financial targets.

Provide the Clinical Director and/or Nursing Director – Operations NWRH with high‑quality, authoritative advice and support.

Provide specialist medical care to patients attending the hospital/service.


Who are we looking for?

We seek a motivated and experienced Clinical Lead – Obstetrics and Gynaecology to work in the North West region. The role requires a collaborative partnership with the Clinical Director – Women’s and Children’s to provide strategic leadership, resource management and delivery of high‑standard care. You will deliver specialist obstetric and gynaecological care at North West Regional Hospital, Burnie and Mersey Community Hospital, Latrobe.

Key service features: a Level 4 maternity unit, Level 4 neonatal unit, 8‑bed intensive care unit, antenatal clinics at NWRH, MCH and regional outreach sites (West Coast District Hospital, Smithton District Hospital, King Island District Hospital & Health Centre). Approximately 1,000 births annually.

The position is ideal for a highly skilled medical professional who thrives on challenges, aims to improve healthcare delivery and has a passion for patient and system‑level impact.


Professional development & education

Support a comprehensive undergraduate and graduate clinical training program in partnership with the University of Tasmania through the Rural Clinical School. Participation in the after‑hours on‑call roster (typically 1 in 5 weekdays, weekends) is required.

Details of appointment

Fixed‑term full‑time day worker (with on‑call), up to 76 hours fortnightly, commencing as soon as possible for a three‑year period. Hours are negotiable.


Salary

Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 – Senior Specialist Level 3: $216,300 – $310,389 per annum, pro‑rata + 12 % superannuation. Salary range is in accordance with the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award. Further allowances and benefits include:

* Management Allowance Clinical Lead – 5 % of base salary
* Salary packaging options (living expenses up to $9,010 & $2,650 in meals & entertainment per year)
* Fully maintained private vehicle or vehicle allowance of $28,786 per annum, pro‑rata
* Allowance for private practice schemes – 35 %
* North West Retention Allowance – 20 %
* Generous relocation assistance and accommodation
* Leave entitlements including study leave & professional development support
* Fitness Passport – access to 40+ fitness facilities across Tasmania ($13.95 per week per person / $25.95 for a family)


Eligibility

Essential criteria:

* Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty
* Current Working with Children Registration

Desirable criteria:

* Current driver’s licence
