Kimberley Mineral Sands Pty Ltd (KMS) is a 50/50 joint venture between Sheffield Resources Limited and YGH Australia Investment Pty Ltd (Yansteel). The Thunderbird Mineral Sands Project is located mid-way between Derby and Broome in the Kimberley region of Western Australia.
Thunderbird is one of the largest and highest-grade zircon mineral sands deposits in the world and contains valuable heavy minerals including ilmenite, zircon, leucoxene, and rutile, which are extracted and exported via the Port of Broome.

About the Role
Reporting to the Superintendent Integrated Planner, the Senior Mining Engineer is responsible for the effective development of the mining plan, consistent with the overall operational goals and strategic direction of Kimberley Mineral Sands. You will play an integral part in supporting the operational readiness of the Project, whilst leading a motivated and engaged technical team.
Location & Roster Options
We prefer the preferred candidate to reside in the West Kimberley region, with relocation and living allowances provided. However, for the right candidate, FIFO from Perth will be considered.
West Kimberley Resident Roster: 8 days on, 6 off (Bus in, Bus out from Broome)
Perth Resident Roster: 8 days on 6 off from Perth (Fly in, Fly out)
Key Responsibilities
Operations Planning
* Review and improve tools and processes for ore reconciliation, production performance monitoring and reporting.
* Maintain & improve the short & medium term mine planning deliverables for a surface mining operation.
* Deliver mine designs according to industry standards and geotechnical design guidelines for infrastructure, pit, waste dump, overburden and DMU mining blocks.
* Update and maintain mining and production schedules, mine moves, layouts.
* Drill and blast design using Deswik.
* Deliver short, medium, and long term mine production schedules considering balanced flow to maximise the utilisation of processing plant.
* Deliver landform and haulage planning to support production achieving stable operation and progressive rehabilitation targets.
* Engage with site technical peers to build an integrated 5-year mining plan.
* Ensure effective transfer of planning strategies to site operations.
Maintenance of Integrated Mine Planning
* Generate and maintain the integrated mine plan (infrastructure, waste mining, drill & blast, Dozer Mining Unit (DMU) mining activities, in-pit tailings wall construction and tailings deposition planning).
* Assist by providing inputs into development of the annual mining budget.
* Ensure plans are integrated to sustain optimal mining.
* Deliver plans that are both short term (detailed) and life of mine and that are up to date, clear and effective.
* Collaborate with the production / maintenance departments and the mining / waste contractors to ensure mine plans are optimized for value and risk.
* Ensure plans are well communicated to and understood by all stakeholders.
* Design mine pits, waste and tailings containment facilities that are safe and fit for purpose.
Review effectiveness of mine plans through production and compliance tracking and incorporate learnings to improve future plans.
About You
* Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering (or related discipline)
* Current WA C-Class driver's licence
* Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar role
* Experience in mine design, including short-medium term mine scheduling
* Significant experience in planning, scheduling and budgeting activities to establish mine development plans
* Experience in mining mineral sands, dry mining with Mining Unit Plan (MUP) and Dozer Ore mining
* Intermediate Microsoft Excel and Project skills
* Proactive and self-driven
* Able to build rapport with employees across all levels of the organisation, as well as manage internal stakeholders and contractors
