Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast‐furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland's Bowen Basin.
Job Description
Aquila Mine is seeking a mine Compliance Officer to join our underground coal operation. The mine is situated in Middlemount, Queensland where you will find a local community looking to expand and grow its people. As the Compliance Officer, you will contribute to Aquila's Vision by being responsible for and contributing to all aspects of mine compliance activities on site.
This role will see you responsible for, but not limited to:
- Assist with Aquila Mine site full compliance with Coal Mining Safety & Health Act and regulations and discharge all obligations identified.
- Discharge the legal obligations of the Fire Officer and maintain firefighting standards including equipment, training, and inspections in accordance with legislation and Anglo American standards.
- Executing the distribution and maintenance of First Aid, Mines Rescue and fire equipment on site (surface and underground).
- Execution and monitoring of all aspects of emergency response procedures and systems on site.
- Ensuring statutory compliance is upheld and develop emergency response improvement strategies.
- Providing administrative and logistical support for the Compliance Department to ensure high‐quality service and support to the mining operations.
- Consistently apply Safety & Health principles in all site interactions and take full ownership for safety on site.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of the Coal Mining Health and Safety Act and Regulations.
- Previous experience in a similar position within an underground mining operation.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety with previous experience in identifying risks and implementing safe working practices.
- Proven ability to effectively communicate at all levels.
- S1, S2, S3 and G2 or G3 and RIIERR201 – Conduct Fire Team Operations
