About the role
Finding better ways to provide the materials the world needs. A suitably qualified and experienced Hydrogeologist to join the Mine Technical Services (MTS) team within Rio Tinto Iron Ore. You will assist in providing hydrogeological support to Pilbara Mine Operations and contribute to dewatering strategies and groundwater resource management. Reporting to the Superintendent of Geoscience Mine Technical Services, you will:
- Drive hydrogeology and surface water management requirements on site to meet current and future production needs.
- Implement and reconcile the site Hydrogeological Conceptual Model that underpins risk mitigation.
- Ensure groundwater compliance for the operation and implement suitable monitoring.
- Design, monitor, and review the effectiveness of dewatering and groundwater management strategies.
- Support targeted data collection for on-site water management decisions.
- Risk-assess the impact of changes to mine plans and dewatering regimes on water management strategies.
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders.
- Demonstrate Rio Tinto values of courage, care, and curiosity.
- Ensure hydrogeological assets are considered across current and future mine planning horizons.
- Collaborate with the on-site Specialist Hydrogeologist and promote knowledge sharing across Operations and Hydrogeology disciplines.
- Design and provide technical hydrogeological support across on-site drilling programs.

- Self-motivated with ability to work independently in a dynamic environment.
- Manual C class WA driver’s license.
- Relevant bachelor’s degree (geology, hydrogeology, science, or engineering).
Nice to have
- Postgraduate training in hydrogeology.
- Experience navigating WA’s water regulatory environment.
- Understanding of challenges faced by underrepresented groups in mining or field roles.
- Knowledge of operational Manage Aquifer Recharge (MAR) systems.
- Knowledge or experience with geotechnical pore pressure monitoring and equipment.

This position is offered on an 8 days on, 6 days off FIFO roster from Perth, Busselton or Broome and will be based on site in the Pilbara region.
