Optus is an Australian telecommunications company, delivering more than 11 million services to our customers every day across mobile, broadband and digital solutions.

The Project Manager, Transport Delivery is responsible for the end-to-end planning, execution, and delivery of IP and Transport deployment projects, including the rollout, optimisation, and migration of transmission equipment across the telecommunications network. The role demands strong leadership, advanced project management skills, and deep technical knowledge of IP, Transport, and transmission systems. Operating in a fast-paced environment, the Project Manager must effectively prioritise initiatives, manage dependencies, and apply commercial and critical thinking to ensure efficient delivery and improved customer outcomes.

This position holds full accountability for all project components — from engineering builds and capacity augmentations to stakeholder engagement and benefit realisation. Success in the role relies on strong collaboration with internal Optus teams, vendors, and operational staff across multiple domains. The Project Manager will lead cross-functional teams to achieve timely, on-budget delivery while maintaining a focus on accuracy, compliance, and customer experience. Clear communication, proactive problem-solving, and meticulous project and financial reporting are key to achieving high-quality outcomes.

Your day to day will consist of

- Lead end-to-end delivery of IP and Transport network projects — including core transmission, IP cores, data centres, leased fibre, and related infrastructure — ensuring on-time, on-budget, and high-quality outcomes.
- Supervise the full project lifecycle, from engineering builds and capacity augmentations to decommissions and migrations, proactively managing dependencies, risks, and change requests to enable flawless execution.
- Engage, empower, and coordinate cross-functional teams across Network, IT, Operations, and Business units, as well as external vendors and contractors, to drive alignment and positive delivery outcomes.
- Manage project governance, financial performance, and reporting, including budget control, forecasting, and adherence to compliance, safety, and quality standards.
- Build strong stakeholder relationships and collaborate with internal and external partners to remove barriers, resolve issues, and achieve Annual Operating Plan (AOP) and customer experience targets.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to streamline delivery processes, improve accountability, and accelerate deployment efficiency across high value programs.

What makes you perfect for the role?

- Relevant professional qualifications in Engineering or related field, with a proven experience in managing telecommunications or network engineering projects across IP, Transport, and Transmission domains.
- Proven track record to deliver large-scale network deployment programs, managing end-to-end project lifecycles, budgets (CAPEX/OPEX), risks, and multi-vendor dependencies in complex telecommunications environments.
- Strong technical knowledge of fibre optic infrastructure, cabling standards, transmission and access technologies, and network management systems, with experience in regulatory, safety, and environmental compliance.
- Demonstrated leadership in managing cross-functional and geographically dispersed technical teams, with strong business partner engagement, influencing, and communication skills at all organisational levels.
- Certified project management qualification and practical experience with delivery methodologies, procurement processes, and governance frameworks aligned to telecommunications operations.
- High commercial competence, analytical thinking, and resilience, with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure, achieve results, and uphold Optus values of ownership, teamwork, and customer focus.
