Key Responsibilities and Functions
Roads Maintenance
* Operate road graders and/or tractor and roller combination units to perform construction and maintenance activities.
* Operate loaders, backhoes, trucks, mowers, and minor plant and other equipment for which appropriate licenses and skills are held to deliver Council's maintenance and construction programs.
* Operate horizontal discharge patrol truck and associated equipment including emulsion sprayer.
* General labouring duties associated with parks and roads maintenance and construction such as road dig outs, patching and potholing, roadside spraying and vegetation removal and, repair and installation of culverts, road signs and guideposts etc. as directed.
* Ensure Council and employee OHS responsibilities relevant to the position are met including adherence to Council policies and procedures and ensuring safe work practices are followed including installing and monitoring warning signs, safety lights, barricades and other traffic management works.
* Ensure daily routine inspections, maintenance and minor repairs are carried out on assigned plant and equipment and record and report any faults.
* Accurately record daily work activities and submit to coordinator.
General Duties
* Participate in knowledge and skill development programs as directed.
* Maintain strict confidentiality in any matter that may affect Council's ability to negotiate effectively with suppliers and/or contractors.
* Project a positive and professional image of the Shire and maintain good community relations.
* Participate in Council's after hours emergency call out phone and duty roster.

o Cert III in Civil Construction (Road Construction and Maintenance) or proven experience in road construction.
* Current heavy rigid vehicle licence, and licenced and able to complete a verification of competency in one of the following tickets:
1. Grader
2. Wheeled Front End Loader
3. Roller Operations
4. Backhoe/Loader Operations
5. Skid Steer Operations
* OHS, First Aid, relevant plant competency certificates.
* Experience in basic road and drainage construction & maintenance work
* Ability to undertake minor maintenance/repairs to equipment
* Understanding and commitment to OHS practices – relevant OHS cards
