The Role
As our Senior Mechatronics Engineer, you will own the design and delivery of the mechatronic subsystems that make LEM tools world-class. You’ll steer projects from first principles through to factory-ready system, acting as Syenta’s in-house specialist for precision motion control, fluid-handling mechanics, and electromechanical integration.

Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
* Architect precision motion & control subsystems – Design multi-axis ultraprecision motion systems, select drives/encoders/sensors and deliver assemblies that hold ≤ 1 µm positional accuracy, high throughput and MTBF targets.
* Own embedded-electronics & firmware lifecycle – Produce mixed-signal PCBs, real-time C/C++ (RTOS) code, safety I/O and power-integrity schemes.
Build vision-guided alignment loops – Specify cameras, illumination and sub-pixel fiducial algorithms; integrate vision feedback with motion control to maintain < 1 µm overlay and drift.
* Commission, tune & verify systems – Perform bring-up, servo tuning, system identification and sensor calibration; create HIL/bench rigs and statistical test plans that prove repeatability and reliability.
* Integrate across disciplines & programmes – Translate precision, yield, uptime and serviceability goals into control-system choices; represent Mechatronics in design-for-X reviews.
* Mentor & develop engineers – Provide day-to-day technical guidance, structured design reviews and competency tracking for junior mechatronics engineers.
* Own the full electromechanical hardware lifecycle – Drive design, vendor selection, procurement, fabrication/assembly and verification; negotiate tolerances, costs and schedules, and release production-ready documentation that meets quality, reliability and scalability targets.
* Safety & compliance – Ensure designs meet relevant SEMI / IEC / WHS standards; maintain full design history and risk analyses.
About You
* Experience: ≥ 8 years in mechanical design, mechatronics, or related engineering fields. Startup, semicon or advanced R&D environment experience is a plus.
* Mindset: A “get stuff done” attitude, thriving in a fast-paced startup environment. Comfortable juggling multiple tasks and iterating designs quickly.
* Cross-Disciplinary Mindset – You have a solid understanding of mechanical, electrical, software and optical systems.
* Growth-Oriented – You’re excited by the prospect of taking on increasing responsibilities as the organization scales, with room for advancement within the engineering organization.
Technical Must Haves
* Embedded and Control electronics - mixed-signal schematics & PCBs, write C/C++ RTOS firmware, and deploy device networking (e.g. CANopen, EtherCAT or Modbus-TCP).
* Mechanical Design – Competent designer of complex 3D assemblies in CAD, validate with FEA for stiffness & thermal CTE loads, and release manufacturable drawings.
* Motion Control Electromechanical Integration - Experience in specifying motors and motion systems, integration of encoders/load cells/RTDs. Development and tuning of PID/S-curve motion on (Beckhoff, Delta-Tau or similar), modelling of kinematics
* System-Level Engineering – Strong experiences in capturing requirements, systems architecting, driving FMEA and verification traceability; debug with scopes, logic analysers and other metrology tools (e.g. thermal/vibration probes).
* Compliance & Safety - Run risk assessments, generate technical documentation, and guide designs through EMC, electrical and functional-safety standards.
* Technical leadership – Experience in mentoring junior engineers, design reviews, and track record of cross disciplinary collaboration.
Desirable Experience
* Submicron motion control – exposure to granite-based vibration-isolation platforms, multi-axis air-bearing, linear-motor and piezo stages; jerk-limited trajectories on ACS, Delta-Tau or TwinCAT real-time stacks.
* Vision & metrology – sub-pixel fiducial-alignment pipelines in HALCON/Cognex/OpenCV; integrate telecentric optics, interferometry and capacitive probes for closed-loop positioning.
* Lithography, Die- & wafer-bonding Experience – Exposure to die-/wafer-bonder, lithography, CMP or inspection tool product lines.
* Active thermal control solutions (liquid loops, TEC plates, environmental enclosures) holding ± 0.01 °C.
* Safety, compliance & quality oversight: Fluent with SEMI S-series (S1/S2/S8) and F47, IEC 61508 / ISO 13849 functional-safety, ISO 14644 cleanliness; EMC & power-sag testing, authorship of 8D/PFMEA and shepherding design sign-off.
