Job Title: Blast and Paint Supervisor
Job Summary:
The Blast and Paint Leading Hand is responsible for overseeing and coordinating blasting and painting operations on structural steel components, ensuring work is completed efficiently, safely, and to the highest quality standards. This role involves leading a team of blasters and painters, providing guidance, and ensuring adherence to company policies, safety procedures, and project timelines. The Leading Hand also plays a key role in maintaining equipment and materials to support smooth operations
Skills:

• Minimum 3 years previous experience in a blasting and painting environment, specifically working with structural steel.
• Strong knowledge of blasting techniques, coating applications, and relevant industry standards for structural steel protection.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
• Experience in managing a team and ensuring productivity and efficiency.
• Understanding of safety regulations (e.g., WHS, PPE requirements, hazardous materials handling).
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to coordinate with team members and management.
• Physical fitness and the ability to work in challenging conditions
Required Certification and Licenses:
• Certificate III in Surface Preparation and Coating Application (or equivalent).
• White Card (General Construction Induction Card).
• High-Risk Work License (HRWL) (if applicable to job duties).
• Working at Heights Certificate (preferred but not essential).
• Forklift License (LF/LO) (essential).
• Breathing Apparatus (BA) Training (if required for hazardous environments).
• Hazardous Materials Awareness Training.
• First Aid & CPR Certificate (advantageous).
Key responsibilities:
• Supervise and coordinate blasting and painting activities for structural steel components to meet project specifications and deadlines.
• Provide hands-on leadership, mentoring, and training to team members.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental standards, and company policies.
• Inspect structural steel surfaces, prepare materials, and oversee proper application techniques for protective coatings.
• Maintain and monitor blasting and painting equipment, ensuring they are in good working condition.
• Collaborate with supervisors and other departments to ensure efficient workflow.
• Conduct quality control inspections and address any defects or rework requirements.
• Manage consumables, materials, and stock levels to avoid shortages and delays.
• Complete documentation, reports, and timesheets as required.
• Assist with troubleshooting and problem-solving on-site issues.
• Promote a positive team culture and encourage a safe and productive work environment.
Work environment & Conditions:
• Exposure to industrial environments, including dust, noise, and hazardous materials.
• Use of protective equipment such as respirators, gloves, and coveralls.
• Work may involve extended hours, weekends, or shift work, depending on project demands.
• Ability to perform manual labor, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
