Australian Target Systems (ATS) is Australia’s most experienced live fire target systems provider, with a history dating back to the 1950s. Today, we are the managing contractor for the procurement, delivery, integration, and maintenance of live fire target systems to the Australian Defence Force.

About the Role

Due to organisational growth, we are seeking a full‑time Work Health & Safety (WH&S) Lead based in Albury. The Work Health & Safety (WHS) Lead is accountable for the organisation’s WHS functions, ensuring a safe, compliant, and high‑performing workplace and drive’s continuous improvement (CI) initiatives through audits, risk assessments, incident management, and ongoing WHS training.

This role will also manage contractor compliance, induction programs, return‑to‑work programs, and policy development. The WHS Lead supports quality and risk processes and contributes to project delivery by integrating safety into planning and execution.


Key Responsibilities

* Develop, implement, and maintain WHS policies, procedures, and safety systems.
* Lead safety initiatives including toolbox talks, WHS meetings, audits, inspections, and site visits.
* Provide expert WHS advice and ensure compliance with legislation, ISO standards, and internal policies.
* Coordinate emergency management as Chief Fire Warden, including evacuation drills.
* Deliver WHS training, inductions, and change‑management workshops for employees and contractors.
* Support project teams by integrating safety, quality, and risk requirements into planning and delivery.
* Manage contractor onboarding, ensuring verification of licences, qualifications, and WHS compliance.
* Oversee incident reporting, investigations, corrective actions, and return‑to‑work programs.
* Champion technology‑driven improvements to enhance safety, quality, risk management, and reporting.
* Build strong relationships with internal teams, regulators, auditors, and external stakeholders to support continuous improvement.


About You

You are a proactive professional who brings a continuous improvement mindset to everything you do. Collaborative by nature, you balance strong compliance knowledge with a practical, solutions‑focused approach.

You’ll bring:

* Tertiary qualification(s) in WHS, Quality, Risk, Business, Governance, or related discipline.
* Demonstrated experience in coordinating emergency response management and conducting routine evacuation drills.
* Capable of delivering training sessions and toolbox talks, safety‑related investigations, work cover & injury management and providing holistic advice on WHS legislation and WHS matters.
* Experience in incident management, including reporting, investigation, and implementation of corrective actions.
* High‑level written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and stakeholder engagement.
* Strong computer literacy and experience working with digital applications for compliance, reporting and document control (e.g. SharePoint, ERP or similar).
* Demonstrated problem‑solving skills with the capacity to evaluate risks, anticipate challenges, and make sound decisions in dynamic environments.
* Understanding of compliance and audit processes, with a proactive approach to continuous improvement.
* Ability to leverage technology, and system‑driven processes to manage compliance, reporting, and CI initiatives.
