Shape a collection that informs, inspires and connects our community. Mackay Regional Council is seeking an experienced and strategic Librarian – Collections to lead the development and management of our library collections, ensuring they remain relevant, accessible and responsive to the diverse needs of our community. This key leadership role plays an important part in supporting lifelong learning, leisure and information access across our library network, while driving continuous improvement and innovation in collection services. Reporting to the Coordinator Programs, Systems & Collections, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of collection development and maintenance across Mackay Regional Council libraries.
Key Responsibilities
* Managing collection development and maintenance, including acquisitions, cataloguing, classification, serials, circulation and materials processing
* Planning and overseeing collection inventory processes to ensure accuracy, integrity and best practice
* Analysing and reporting on collection data to support strategic and operational decision-making
* Contributing to the development and review of policies, procedures and the Library Collection Development Plan
* Assisting with budget development, monitoring and financial sustainability of collections
* Leading, coaching and developing a multi-skilled team committed to continuous improvement
* Supporting customer-focused library services and collaborative relationships with stakeholders
About You
You are a strategic and analytical library professional with a passion for collections, data-driven decision-making and people leadership. You thrive in a continuous improvement environment and are confident leading teams, managing competing priorities and adapting to emerging trends and technologies.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
* Degree in Library & Information Science or a related field, or equivalent qualifications and experience appropriate to the role
* Demonstrated experience developing and managing library collections, including library management systems and emerging trends
* Proven leadership experience, including coaching, performance management and team development
* Experience analysing data, preparing reports and making evidence-based recommendations
* Working with Children Blue Card
* Current Queensland "C" Class Driver Licence (or interstate equivalent, transferable within three months)
Desirable
* Eligibility for membership of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA)
Skills & Knowledge
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
* High-level analytical and critical thinking capability
* Excellent problem-solving and negotiation skills
* Strong commitment to continuous improvement and adaptability
* Substantial knowledge of public library systems, digital platforms and cataloguing principles
* Knowledge of relevant legislative and regulatory requirements (desirable)
