Your Role

An opportunity exists to join the team at Catholic Education Office in a newly created position of Lead Investigator: Workplace Conduct, to commence as soon as possible or as negotiated with the successful applicant. This is a full time continuing position.

The role presents an opportunity to lead complex workplace conduct investigations, providing specialist advice that strengthens organisational investigation standards and student protection outcomes. Key responsibilities include managing a diverse caseload of internal and external investigations, ensuring compliance with legislative and safeguarding frameworks, and contributing to best-practice investigative capability across the organisation.

Candidates must demonstrate strong investigative expertise, sound professional judgment, the ability to manage sensitive matters, and a commitment to trauma-informed culturally safe practice. The position is based in Rockhampton.

Typical duties include, but are not limited:

* Lead and conduct end-to-end workplace investigations into reportable conduct, professional standards concerns, and employee misconduct, including analysis, evidence assessment, interviews, and preparation of high‐quality investigative reports.
* Ensure all investigations involving children and young people comply and align with CEDR's Student Protection and Safeguarding Policy, CEDR's Student Protection Processes and Guidelines, as well as the National Office for Child Safety's Complaint Handling Guide: Upholding the Rights of Children and Young People.
* Provide specialist, strategic advice on the management of complex misconduct and professional standards matters, including recommended actions, risk considerations, and procedural requirements.
* Coordinate and manage external investigators and legal counsel, ensuring independent investigations are undertaken effectively and in accordance with legislative and organisational standards.
* Work with statutory and legislative agencies (e.g., QPS, CPIU, QCT, QFCC, ACECQA) to determine the appropriate course of action for investigations.
* Develop and deliver capability‐building programs, training, and resources that improve investigation practice and organisational standards.
* Maintain transparent, accurate and compliant investigation records within CEDR's records management systems (Content Manager/RiskMan), including all documentation, correspondence, actions, and outcomes.

About you

The successful applicant will have:

* An understanding of, and a commitment to, the ethos of Catholic Education.
* Ability to work within a confidential environment
* High level competency in investigative practice including trauma-informed interview techniques
* Industry experience in leading and conducting complex investigations at a middle to senior level
* Effective relationship building and influencing skills
* Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral
* The ability to work well either individually or collaboratively as part of a team, and to accept direction and support.
* The ability to adapt and be flexible within a dynamic educational setting.
* Degree level qualifications in a relevant field and/or minimum of 5 years demonstrated equivalent industry or specialised professional experience in a relevant role.
* Successful completion of Interviewing Children and Recording Evidence (ICARE) course or equivalent.

Mandatory Requirements

* A current valid Blue Card under the Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act 2000 (WWC Act) and valid Suitability Notice is a requirement of the position.
* Degree level qualifications in a relevant field and/or minimum of 5 years demonstrated equivalent industry or specialised professional experience in a relevant role.
* Successful completion of Interviewing Children and Recording Evidence (ICARE) course or equivalent.
* Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role in a safe manner.
