The Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) (RFDS) is passionate about supporting rural and remote communities, delivering mental health care that meets the unique needs of people across Outback Queensland. The Central West and Outback Mental Health team is rewarding, meaningful, and grounded in genuine connection with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. Through programs such as Wellbeing Out West, Children and Parenting Support, the Drought Wellbeing Service, Remote Wellbeing Service, Psychological Therapies, and Low Intensity Mental Health, we provide vital support where it's needed most.

Our role is a full‐time position on an initial 2‐year contract, working in a Fly‐in and Fly‐out (FIFO) model from Brisbane to Longreach, with a rotation of 12 days on and 9 days off. The RFDS will provide accommodation and a vehicle while you work in Longreach. If you wish to stay and settle in Longreach, let us know – we offer several allowances and incentives to do so.

In a typical day, clinicians support Longreach and the surrounding area through:

* Intake and triage processes.
* Holistic clinical assessments and the development of recovery‐focused, client‐centred treatment plans.
* Culturally appropriate clinical interventions to individuals, families, and occasionally groups.
* Regular case reviews.
* Collaborating closely with other service providers to support continuity of care.
* Planning and delivering health promotion, early intervention, and prevention activities, including group programmes, workplace training, and community‐driven events.

* Deliver psychological therapies and mental health education.
* Coordinate with community services and multidisciplinary teams.
* Maintain accurate clinical records and case reviews.
* Plan and deliver prevention and community‐based health promotion activities.
* Support travel and overnight stays in remote communities.

* Qualifications in Psychology, Social Work (MH accreditation with AASW), Occupational Therapy, or Mental Health Nursing (eligible for mental health credentialing).
* Registration with AHPRA or membership with the AASW.
* Minimum 5 years of post‐graduate clinical experience.
* Highly skilled in empowering others and confident in delivering mental health education.
* Knowledgeable on issues impacting rural and remote populations.
* Respectful understanding of cultural diversity, including traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander views of health and wellness.
* Ability to work independently with minimal direction and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
* Excellent organisational and time‐management skills with demonstrated ability to establish priorities and manage workloads.
* Ability to travel and stay overnight in remote communities.
