About Spiral Blue
Spiral Blue is an innovative Australian space technology company dedicated to advancing space domain awareness, proximity operations, and Earth observation through cutting‐edge LiDAR and edge computing systems. We are a fast‐paced team focused on rapid prototyping and deployment of critical sensing capabilities for the new space economy. Join us to take ownership of complex technical challenges and contribute directly to flight hardware.
The Role
We are seeking a versatile and highly motivated Electronics Photonics Engineer to join our engineering team. This role is crucial for advancing our next‐generation space‐qualified LiDAR systems. The successful candidate will be expected to take ownership of key subsystems currently undergoing rapid prototyping, from conceptual design through to testing and qualification.
Key Responsibilities
* Design, simulate, prototype, and test electrical circuits, power systems, and signal conditioning electronics for LiDAR systems.
* Develop and integrate photonics subsystems ensuring performance meets mission requirements.
* Contribute to the selection and qualification of space payloads for launch operation on orbit.
System Integration & Testing
* Serve as a systems engineering interface, ensuring seamless integration between multidisciplinary subsystems.
* Develop and execute comprehensive test plans for components and integrated LiDAR systems.
Rapid Prototyping & Ownership
* Lead the technical execution of specific LiDAR subsystems from initial concept to a flight‐ready design.
* Identify and resolve technical risks and design deficiencies in a fast‐paced development environment.
Documentation
* Create and maintain detailed design documentation, schematics, integration procedures, and test reports.
Essential Qualifications and Experience (Required)
* 3+ years of professional experience in a relevant engineering field (Electrical, Systems, Photonics, or Aerospace).
* Proven hands‐on experience in hardware design and testing, ideally with experience taking a product from prototype to final design.
* Strong theoretical and practical knowledge in at least one of the following areas:
o High‐speed analog and digital circuit design.
o Laser/detector technology and fiber optics.
o Embedded systems and interface protocols (e.g. SPI, I2C, Ethernet).
o Proficiency with tools for schematics and PCB design.
o Demonstrable experience with laboratory equipment (oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers, power supplies, optical meters).
* A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Photonics, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
* Have the right to work in Australia, with citizenship in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan, or another European country.
Desired Skills (Bonus)
* Direct experience with LiDAR, optical sensing systems, or remote sensing payloads.
* Laser safety certifications (e.g., LSO2)
* Knowledge of space environmental testing and space qualification standards (e.g., radiation, thermal‐vacuum, vibration).
* Is enthusiastic about space and working at a startup.
Why Join Spiral Blue?
* Work on real flight hardware and contribute to Australia's growing space sector.
* A culture of rapid innovation and impact, where your contributions are immediately visible.
* Competitive salary + equity and professional development opportunities.
* Flexible working arrangements.
