Data Center Electrical Manager - Critical facilities Location: Melbourne (On-site)Employment Type: Full-time, PermOur client is a leading global data center developer and operator, with 4.0+GW of capacity built or under development, with an additional 6.0+GW of planned and potential development worldwide. They are actively expanding across APAC with Melbourne being one of the key focus. They are seeking an Electrical Manager to join their expanding team.This Electrical Engineering Manager is a key leader within their Critical Operations team, responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation, maintenance, and optimization of all mission-critical electrical systems across their data center campus.You will provide technical leadership, operational governance, and vendor management to ensure all electrical activities are executed to the highest standards and legislative requirements. This is a senior role for an experienced electrical engineer who understands that in a data center, every electron counts.ResponsibilitiesOperations & Maintenance Leadership· Lead and embed a safety-first culture across all electrical activities, including live site risk controls, isolations/LOTO, permit-to-work, and method statement compliance.· Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of mission-critical electrical infrastructure supporting 24/7 data center operations: · HV/LV switchgear and transformers · UPS systems (static and rotary) · Battery systems (VRLA, lithium-ion) · STS and ATS · Generators (diesel, fuel systems) · PDUs and RPPs· Set and uphold electrical maintenance standards and schedules; ensure PMs are completed on time, to scope, and with quality evidence.· Review and approve MOPs, SOPs, and EOPs for electrical works; ensure risk assessments, hold points, and rollback steps are clear and executable.Technical Leadership & Incident Management· Direct and quality-assure testing programs (functional tests, load transfers, IR/continuity checks, thermography, battery discharge testing) and address findings with corrective actions.· Monitor electrical system performance using BMS/EPMS/DCIM and analytics; identify anomalies, trends, and early warning signals to prevent incidents.· Provide technical leadership during incidents affecting electrical systems; support triage, stabilization, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventative actions.· Contribute to capacity planning, power quality reviews, and optimization initiatives (e.g., harmonics management, redundancy integrity, energy efficiency opportunities).Vendor & Contractor Management· Oversee electrical contractors and OEM/service partners to ensure safe, compliant, and high-quality delivery aligned to operational standards.· Set performance expectations, review service reports, track actions to closure, and lead regular service reviews.· Ensure all vendor personnel are briefed on site rules, risk controls, and operational constraints before commencing work.Governance, Readiness & Continuous Improvement· Maintain strong document control for procedures, switching sheets, schematics, single-line diagrams, commissioning records, and test results.· Support operational readiness for new electrical assets and systems (documentation, spares, labeling, CMMS updates, training/tooling).· Validate the accuracy of as-built documentation, protection settings, and switching procedures.· Drive continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen safety, reliability, maintainability, and efficiency of electrical systems.People Leadership· Lead, mentor, and develop Facilities Engineering personnel to build deep electrical capability and confident execution in live environments.· Foster teamwork and knowledge sharing across electrical, mechanical, controls, and operations teams.· Provide clear direction, priorities, and expectations to internal teams and service partners; ensure disciplined shift handovers for electrical status and risks.· Present technical and operational updates to customers and leadership with clear, plain English explanations of risk, impact, and remediation.Requirements:You are a senior electrical engineer with 6–8 years of experience in data centers or other mission-critical environments (pharmaceuticals, aviation, power generation, industrial utilities). You have supervised technical teams of five or more and understand what it takes to maintain 100% uptime.· Bachelor's degree or above in Electrical Engineering or equivalent professional experience.· 6–8 years' experience in data center or critical environment operations.· Experience supervising technical teams of five or more.· Experience managing preventative maintenance programs.· Extensive knowledge of electrical infrastructure as outlined above.· Experience with CMMS, BMS, DCIM, and relevant engineering systems.· Strong skills in Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Office.· Technical Expertise: Expert knowledge of electrical infrastructure including HV/LV switchgear, transformers, UPS systems, STS/ATS, generators, battery systems, PDUs, and RPPs.· HV Authorised Person: HV AP status is highly regarded (or required based on site standards).· Testing & Commissioning: Experience directing testing programs including load banks, thermography, infrared scanning, and battery discharge testing.· Protection & Coordination: Understanding of protection coordination, power quality analysis, and capacity planning.· Monitoring Systems: High proficiency with BMS/EPMS/DCIM, system analytics, and monitoring tools.· Maintenance Governance: Experience managing preventative maintenance programs and reviewing MOPs, SOPs, and EOPs.· Incident Leadership: Proven ability to lead technical incidents, conduct root cause analysis, and drive corrective actions to closure.· Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of relevant electrical regulatory codes and permit processes (Australian standards).· Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills suitable for customer briefings and executive updates.Preferred Qualifications· Recognised electrical trade licence/authorisation.· HV Authorised Person status highly regarded.· Experience with power quality analysis, protection coordination reviews, and capacity planning.· Exposure to energy efficiency initiatives and continuous improvement programs in critical facilities.· Dual trade (electrical and mechanical) qualifications highly regarded.
