About What's Up Downunder

What's Up Downunder exists to inspire, guide, and empower Australians to experience the freedom of caravanning and camping. Through trusted reviews, expert advice, and real stories, we help people research with confidence, plan smarter, and travel safer.

Across TV, digital, YouTube, social, and events, What's Up Downunder is Australia's most comprehensive caravanning media destination. When Australians research, plan, or dream about caravanning, we aim to be their trusted mate on the journey.

As we expand our video-first editorial offering in 2026, including caravan reviews, tow-vehicle testing, Tough Tested segments, and touring content, we're looking for a journalist who wants to grow with us and help shape the next chapter of Australian touring media.

-----------------------------------

About the Role

We're looking for a Caravan & Touring Video Journalist, a strong storyteller who is confident on camera and excited by travel, vehicles, and real-world testing.

This role is ideal for a video journalist, presenter, or digital content creator with a background in journalism, media, or publishing who wants to specialise in caravanning, touring, and outdoor adventure.

You don't need to be a lifelong caravan engineer, but you do need curiosity, credibility, and the ability to explain complex or technical information clearly and honestly for everyday Australians.

You'll present and produce reviews, guides, and touring stories across video, digital, and social platforms, working closely with our editorial, digital, and production teams. The role involves regular travel for shoots, reviews, industry events, and touring assignments.

-----------------------------------

What You'll Do

Video & Storytelling

* Present caravan, camper, and tow-vehicle reviews on camera (long-form, mid-form, and short-form)
* Write and develop review scripts, articles, and comparison guides
* Turn technical specs and real-world testing into clear, practical, audience-first stories
* Participate in towing tests, walkarounds, setup demonstrations, and off-grid testing
* Capture short-form content when required (mobile shooting acceptable)
* Collaborate with production and digital teams to deliver multi-platform content

Editorial & Publishing

* Support the publishing of reviews and guides on
* Work with the digital team to ensure accuracy, consistency, SEO best practice, and strong user experience
* Contribute ideas across Reviews, Guides & Advice, Travel Inspiration, and Tough Tested content

Industry & Community

* Attend media days, launches, dealer events, and caravan shows
* Build relationships with manufacturers, industry stakeholders, and audiences
* Represent What's Up Downunder as a credible, trusted on-camera voice
-----------------------------------

What You'll Bring

* Proven experience as a journalist, video journalist, presenter, or digital content creator
* Strong on-camera presence and confidence presenting to audience
* Excellent writing skills, clear, conversational, and trustworthy
* Interest in caravanning, camping, touring, vehicles, or outdoor adventure
* Ability to learn technical topics quickly and explain them simply
* Comfort working from scripts and in unscripted, real-world environments
* Experience publishing content via WordPress or similar CMS (or willingness to learn)
* Familiarity with basic SEO, digital publishing, or editorial workflows
* Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel regularly for work

Note: Deep technical caravanning or towing experience is a strong advantage, but not essential. We value strong journalism, storytelling ability, and on-camera credibility above all.

-----------------------------------

Bonus Skills (Nice to Have)

* Personal caravanning, RV, or touring experience
* Automotive, adventure, or outdoor journalism background
* Ability to self-shoot short-form video (Reels, Shorts, TikTok)
* Understanding of vehicle dynamics, towing basics, or off-grid systems
* Drone operation (basic to intermediate)
* Interest in using AI tools to support research, scripting, metadata, or content repurposing
-----------------------------------

Why Join What's Up Downunder

* Become one of the faces of Australia's most trusted caravanning media brand
* Develop a unique on-camera journalism niche in a growing sector
* Access new vehicles, caravans, industry events, and touring opportunities
* Work with a collaborative digital, editorial, and production team
* Produce content that reaches millions across YouTube, digital, and TV
* Help Australians research confidently, plan smarter, and travel better
-----------------------------------

Reporting & Collaboration

* Reports to: Group Head of Digital & Customer Experience
* Works closely with: Digital, Editorial, Marketing, Media, and Production teams
-----------------------------------

We encourage applications from journalists, presenters, and content creators who may not come from traditional caravanning backgrounds but are excited to learn, travel, and tell great stories.
