Defence Force Counselling Position Based in Canberra (Full-Time)In this role, you will be a vital source of support for Defence members and their families, addressing a broad spectrum of issues.Onsite location in Brindabella Business Park, Canberra, this office-based position offers a challenging yet rewarding environment, dealing with complex cases and providing urgent assistance.With over a decade of exclusive partnership with the Defence Member Family Services branch of the ADF, abrs has effectively placed numerous contractors in various roles nationwide. Many of these individuals have secured permanent positions with the ADF after successfully completing their initial 12-month contracts. This opportunity serves as a valuable stepping stone for those aspiring to pursue long-term contracting and permanency within our nation's Defence Force.This is an ongoing casual contract working a rotating roster from Monday to Sunday.The Role:Provide telephone counselling and referral assistance to callers requiring crisis intervention and risk assessment skills.Carry out assessments via telephone and Skype.Create detailed written reports.Undertake various projects related to Defence members.Refer callers to other services as appropriate.Work efficiently within a team of professionals, including debriefing and knowledge sharing to support callers.You:Degree-qualified in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, Human Services/Social Sciences, Allied Health, or Degree-qualified Nurses with experience or further qualifications in Mental Health.Demonstrated assessment and communication skills (face-to-face and via telephone).Proven crisis intervention and risk assessment skills.Excellent communication skills and extensive experience in writing detailed reports.Must be an Australian citizen.Must be located in the ACT or willing to relocate.Willing to work a full-time rotating roster, including day, afternoon (Monday to Friday), and weekend shifts.Desirable:3-5 years of postgraduate experience working with complex clients facing issues such as Mental Health, Domestic Violence, Grief, AOD, Loss, or Homelessness.A number of probity checks are required, including holding a current Working with Vulnerable People card and undertaking a National Police Check.Why Partner with abrs?Our values are the foundation of everything we do.
