What you'll be doing
In this vital, non-clinical role, you will advocate for and support Aboriginal consumers and their families accessing inpatient mental health services, ensuring care is culturally safe, respectful, and responsive.

* Engage with Aboriginal consumers admitted to mental health units, providing support and advocacy throughout their care journey
* Act as a key liaison between consumers, families, and multidisciplinary teams to strengthen communication and understanding
* Support care planning, discharge coordination, and connection to community and support services
* Promote culturally safe practices and contribute to education and awareness across the service
* Contribute to Aboriginal Health strategies and participate in cultural and community initiatives

Essential Requirements:

Qualification: Relevant Qualification in Health
Evidence of Diversity claim if applicable (state which category): Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent with established links with their local Aboriginal community. WSLHD considers that being Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational qualification under s 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977. A commitment to the improvement of health care of Aboriginal peoples in contact with the WSLHD.

Selection Criteria:

* Be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent (pursuant to Section 14 (d) of the Antidiscrimination Act NSW 1977).
* Have or be willing to obtain relevant qualifications in Certificate III or IV community services or primary health care.
* Demonstrated experience in working with Aboriginal people who experience mental health conditions and psychosocial distress. This includes intergenerational trauma, various family structures and the impacts of social and emotional wellbeing impacts for Aboriginal communities
* Experience in working effectively with a large range of health professionals and advocating for Aboriginal mental health consumers and their families in addressing their health care needs
* Experience in working effectively with a large range of health professionals and advocating for Aboriginal mental health consumers and their families in addressing their health care needs
* Demonstrated experience working with complex issues, problem solving, that impact Aboriginal consumers when in a mental health hospital setting. Understanding of the management of consumer complaints and consumer privacy and escalation processes
* License: Class C Driver's License
