Overview
What's the role? Strategy & Insight Manager – News Australia
News Australia | Sydney | Full Time
About The Role
This is not a typical publisher strategy role. This is a hands-on, creative position where you'll get more ownership, more variety, and more stage time than most agency or publisher roles at the same level.
What You'll Be Doing
Sitting at the heart of our Strategy & Solutions team, you will lead insight-driven thinking across a high volume of agency and client briefs. Your focus will be on ideas, clarity, and energy.
* Develop insight-led, idea-first responses for major agency partners and brand clients.
* Use the scale of our print, digital, social, audio, and magazine networks to build bold, culturally relevant ideas.
* Create \"big organizing ideas\" and cultural hooks that our sales teams can confidently take to market.
* Co-present in agency and client settings, taking increasing ownership of pitches over time.
* Work with Sales, Product, and Digital teams to ensure ideas are grounded and actionable.
* As you grow, you'll help refine the tools and frameworks that lift the quality and speed of our team's thinking.
Who are you?
This role is perfect for a mid-level agency planner, connections strategist, or comms thinker who is ready to step up. You'll thrive here if you are idea-first, confident in a room, and energized by variety.
Our Ideal Candidate
* 3–5 years of experience in media, agency, or publisher roles involving strategy or planning.
* Strong presentation skills with the ability to translate audience and cultural insights into a compelling narrative.
* You think quickly, adapt fast, and enjoy working across multiple projects simultaneously.
* You are comfortable being constructively challenged and enjoy challenging others to think better.
* Exposure to brand or communications thinking is essential. While media/publishing experience is a plus, we value how you think over your specific job title.
Why Join News Australia?
* Get real front-of-room experience and exposure to globally recognized brands.
* Skip the weeks of \"polishing one deck\"—you'll build range and speed by working across diverse categories.
* See how great strategy connects directly to commercial outcomes, not just creative theory.
* This is a career-accelerator role designed for someone who wants volume, variety, and visibility.
What Success Looks Like
In your first 12 months, you will have lifted the strategic standard of our everyday brief responses, become a trusted voice in external agency conversations, and introduced fresh ways to utilize our diverse product suite.
