Why this role matters

The Salvation Army (Salvos) is one of Australia's largest providers of alcohol and other drug (AOD) programs including withdrawal management, residential and non-residential rehabilitation, and harm reduction programs. Salvos services go beyond addressing the core issues and challenges associated with problematic substance abuse and provide participants a place of hope, compassion, and dignity to recover safely.

The Bridge Program is a Tasmania-wide service for help overcoming and recovering from addictions related to Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs. There are 12 residential beds and four transitional units. The centre is close to St John's Park and is set on six acres of grounds, with a community garden, arts centre, gymnasium and commercial kitchen.

About the role

We are seeking a values-driven and proactive AOD After Hours Support Worker to provide after hours support for residents of the Bridge Program and support a team of case workers by ensuring residents comply with policy and procedures of the program after hours.

Reporting to the Program Supervisor, this is a casual position based in New Town, Tasmania. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the SCHADS Award Level 3.

You will successfully- Provide assistance to assess client issues, needs and circumstances and develop strategies to address needs.-
- Provide clients accessing the service with a welcoming and responsive initial contact and ensure urgent and immediate needs are addressed.-
- Take appropriate preventative action in relation to potential high risk situations.-
- Maintain the centre to a high level of cleanliness and tidiness.-
- Establish effective relationships with clients that encourage self-determination and participation and support them to improve their situation.You will have- Certificate IV level qualification in relevant field e.g. AOD or Mental Health or related field and relevant experience.-
- A current Tasmanian Employee Working with Vulnerable People Check.-
- A current and valid First Aid Certificate.-
- A valid Tasmanian Driver licence.-
- Ability to understand and respond to the needs of individuals experiencing AOD issues.What we offer
