APPRENTICE MASTER – STILL ON TRACK PROGRAM

Wunan Foundation is a leading Aboriginal development organisation based in the East Kimberley region of Western Australia. Its purpose is to ensure that Aboriginal people enjoy the capabilities and opportunities necessary to make positive choices that lead to independent, fulfilling lives.
Wunan delivers the Still on Track Program in the East Kimberley, a hands-on program that supports young people (aged 16 – 20) to learn basic welding and fabrication techniques, build practical workshop skills and broaden their work and training opportunities. The program is structured around supporting the young people to build their own e-scooters which can be used for future work and training opportunities.
Wunan is seeking a practical and experienced tradie who can mentor and supervise our young people on the tools, supporting them to complete their e-scooters in a fun and safe way. You'll demonstrate the steps involved, keep strong workshop routines and hold a high standard for safety and quality.
Key Duties
•Work closely with young participants, guiding them through hands-on build projects.
•Ensure program participants are aware of safety requirements and work in a safe manner during the program.
•Assist young people in the fabrication, assembly, and installation of simple build projects.
•Provide mentorship and share your expertise to help youth develop technical skills and confidence.
•Participate in creating a supportive and inclusive environment that fosters personal growth and reengagement with education or employment pathways.
Requirements/criteria of the role
•Trade/workshop experience (qualified boilermaker/welder/mechanic or similar)
•Ability to weld (basic welding + safe supervision)
•Are practical, patient and can explain things step-by-step
•Can pass compliance (Working with Children Check and Police Clearance)
Desirable criteria (good to have but not essential)
•Mentoring/apprentice experience
•Local contacts for workshop/fab industry visits
•Experience working with young people
The position is for a casual 12-week role, commencing early April and ending in early July.
