Transfer Station Operator – Magnetic Island
Townsville City Council is inviting applications for the Transfer Station Operator role at Magnetic Island. This role is part-time (38.5 hours/fortnight) and focuses on providing front-line customer service, supervising waste processes, and supporting the operation of the Transfer Station.
About the Role
The purpose of the role is to deliver high-quality customer service by assisting customers with the use of waste disposal and recovery facilities, encouraging waste diversion, and resolving queries. Daily activities include customer service, litter management, supervision of recycling processes, maintenance of signage and hazardous waste collection sheds, gatehouse operation and plant operation. The position will also provide support to the Collection Section and Gatehouse Operations during emergencies and cover periods of sickness, annual leave and weekend work.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver customer service and waste diversion guidance to the public.
Supervise recycling processes and maintain signage and hazardous waste shedding areas.
Operate gatehouse controls and plant controls to support facility operations.
Provide support to the Collection Section and Gatehouse Operations during emergencies.
Cover weekend rostered work and cover periods of sickness and annual leave.
Mandatory Qualifications & Experience
Current "HR" class driver's licence.
Front-end loader licence (LL).
Excellent customer service skills.
Working knowledge of waste disposal plant operation and associated checks.
Experience in the waste management/disposal industry.
Computer skills for weighbridge software operation.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
Demonstrated experience in operating heavy plant such as a front-end loader.
High standard of personal cleanliness and equipment maintenance practices.
