About The Role
Band 5 - base salary from $152,000 per annum (plus super) - total package to be negotiated with preferred candidate based on skills and experience
At TasNetworks, we're not just running telecommunications infrastructure, we're building a high‐availability, future‐ready network that underpins critical operations, supports renewables growth, and enables next‐generation connectivity. We're looking for a Senior Telecommunications Engineer who brings strong technical expertise, enjoys solving complex problems, and is ready to lead from the front.
You'll provide technical leadership across a critical telecommunications environment supporting utility operations – owning the design, performance, and evolution of networks spanning fibre, microwave, IP, and operational communications. You'll lead the uplift of the network to support renewables and growth, balancing innovation with the high availability and resilience required in a 24/7 environment, while working closely with stakeholders to deliver fit‐for‐purpose solutions.
You'll lead complex telecom projects end‐to‐end; design through to commissioning, navigating legacy environments, risk, and change without compromising reliability. Alongside this, you'll mentor engineers, uplift capability across the team, and use your awareness of industry and regulatory shifts to help shape the future direction of the telecommunications network.
About You
You're an experienced telecommunications engineer with a strong foundation in telecommunications carrier networks or large ISP environments, backed by a relevant engineering degree and over five years of hands‐on experience designing and delivering high‐reliability telecom networks. You bring deep technical expertise across fibre, radio, IP/Ethernet, DWDM, and multiplexing systems, and you're comfortable owning solutions end‐to‐end in operational environments where uptime is critical. You've delivered for customers before—and you understand the balance between engineering excellence, timelines, and real‐world constraints.
You think beyond the current state, challenging designs, championing new technologies, and adapting quickly to complex, evolving problems. You understand how telecoms underpin utility operations, including exposure to power systems and operational technologies. You're confident navigating projects, contracts, and stakeholders, and you communicate clearly—whether you're writing technical documentation or aligning a room full of engineers, operators, and vendors. Above all, you lead by example: mentoring others, building strong teams, and embedding a safety‐first mindset into design and delivery.
