Primary objective
To provide high quality support and advice across all financial activities including budget development, financial management,
report preparation and presentation, data analysis and investigation, financial reconciliations processes and liaison with internal
and external stakeholders.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Support the Director and Team Leader Budgets and Reporting in the delivery of quality budget services and initiatives that
contribute to organisational objectives.
2. Provide advice and training to business units as required to allow them to use financial data and analysis information effectively.
3. Review financial transactions and analyse financial reports against budget, investigate anomalies and respond to ad hoc queries
as needed.
4. Facilitate the timely and appropriate provision of financial and budgetary support services, to promote cost effectiveness and
compliance with internal control measures.
5. Assist with the provision of financial management requirements of the Northern Territory budgetary cycle, including responses
to Treasury circular exercises, the Annual Report, and the Estimates Committee hearings.
6. Maintain and update the agency's chart of accounts, ensuring accuracy and consistency; coordinate and communicate any
changes with relevant stakeholders.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Well-developed knowledge of the governance frameworks and administrative procedures relevant to the agency's corporate
and budget processes and services.
2. Demonstrates knowledge of budgets and ability to interpret financial management legislation, and NT Government and agency
policies, procedures, and systems.
3. Substantial experience in the use of financial systems and databases, and ability to use electronic spreadsheets to perform
financial analysis and prepare reports.
4. Sound oral and written communication skill to effectively convey information to a range of stakeholders.
5. High levels of accountability, integrity, flexibility, initiative, self-motivation, and attention to detail.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in accounting, commerce, or business.
2. Knowledge of the current budget and financial management cycles, financial legislation, and systems that influence Public
Sector accounting and financial procedures in the Northern Territory.
