The Role
The successful candidate will support the effective operation of the Science Learning Area by providing advice and assistance to the Head of Learning Area and teaching staff, recommending suitable experiments and demonstrations, and ensuring curriculum requirements are met.
Responsibilities
* Prepare chemicals, equipment, and materials; design and construct teaching aids; collect and care for living organisms for study in accordance with laboratory practices and legislative requirements.
* Organise preparation areas and classroom laboratories to maintain a safe and efficient learning environment for students and staff.
* Maintain general housekeeping of chemicals, equipment (including maintenance and minor repairs), and other resources.
* Manage laboratory stocks, place orders, liaise with suppliers, and assist with stocktakes following Departmental guidelines.
* Provide guidance on the safe use, handling, storage, and disposal of equipment, chemicals and biological materials.
* Collaborate on budget monitoring, staff training, and induction of new or relief laboratory technicians as required.
Qualifications
* Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or holder of a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of appointment.
* Valid Working With Children Check before commencement.
* Demonstrated experience working within a science laboratory, including knowledge of laboratory techniques and relevant safety and legislative requirements.
* Knowledge of science subjects relevant to the secondary school curriculum and ability to design and construct experiments and equipment to support curriculum requirements.
* Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
* Organisational and time‐management skills with the ability to work independently.
* Well‐developed keyboarding and computer skills, including working knowledge of databases, spreadsheets, and word processing.
