Assistant Commissioner, Intelligence and Operations

* Total Remuneration Package starting from $305,854 to $343,273
Your role The Assistant Commissioner, Intelligence & Operations provides senior executive leadership across all intelligence, security and operational functions within Corrective Services NSW (CSNSW). This role shapes statewide intelligence capability, strengthens operational oversight, and ensures a robust security framework that supports safe, secure and effective correctional environments. As a key strategic advisor to the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner, you will lead critical incident response, intelligence gathering, risk management, and major security initiatives that underpin community safety and the effective functioning of the NSW justice system.
What you’ll do As the Assistant Commissioner, Intelligence & Operations you will:
* Lead the development and implementation of intelligence, security and operational plans aligned to the CSNSW Strategic Plan and government priorities.
* Oversee intelligence collection, analysis and dissemination across custodial and community settings to proactively identify risks, threats and emerging patterns.
* Direct the management of major security functions including serious offender management, High Risk Management Program, Security Operations Groups, Court Escort and Security, Corrections Intelligence Group, and strategic population management.
* Provide high‑level advice to the Commissioner and Senior Executive on security, intelligence and operational risks, ensuring a coordinated and strategic approach to incident management.
* Oversee Counter Terrorism and Counter Violent Extremist (CTCVE) strategies to mitigate and manage extremist risk across CSNSW.
* Strengthen governance systems relating to information security, access control, operational reporting and compliance with legislative and policy requirements.
* Lead security reviews across all CSNSW facilities and drive best‑practice improvements in monitoring, control, technology adoption and operational capability.
* Build strong partnerships with police, intelligence agencies, courts, prosecution services, and national jurisdictions to ensure a cohesive, information‑driven justice system.
* Manage significant operational budgets and ensure effective allocation of resources across a large, complex and high‑risk portfolio.

What we’re looking for
* Senior executive leadership experience in a large, complex operational environment, ideally within corrections, policing, intelligence or national security.
* Strong expertise in intelligence, security, incident management and operational risk management.
* Proven ability to lead high‑pressure, high‑risk functions requiring rapid decision‑making and strong situational judgement.
* Exceptional communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to work across government, intelligence organisations and justice sector partners.
* Demonstrated experience leading cultural change, building workforce capability and driving continuous improvement in complex environments.
* High‑level analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to anticipate risks and implement proactive strategies.
* A values‑driven, accountable and collaborative leader committed to community safety, operational excellence and effective service delivery.
