We are currently seeking expressions of interest for a motivated and detail‑oriented Lab Technician to support our Secondary Science Department. This position is 0.8 FTE with flexibility in workload negotiable for the right candidate. The role is available for an immediate start.
The Lab Technician plays a vital role in the smooth delivery of Primary and Secondary Science education by preparing and maintaining equipment, managing chemicals and resources, and ensuring all safety procedures are followed. The successful candidate will work closely with science teaching staff to facilitate engaging and safe practical lessons.
Key Responsibilities:
* Prepare, distribute, and pack away materials and equipment for science practical classes.
* Maintain, organise servicing, and clean laboratory equipment and resources, ensuring they are in good working condition.
* Manage inventory, labelling, and storage of chemicals in accordance with relevant safety standards.
* Monitor and record stock levels in a chemical inventory, liaising with the Head of Department to restock consumables when required.
* Maintain an equipment inventory and storage system.
* Assist with the preparation and safe disposal of solutions and biological materials.
* Provide technical support to both Primary and Secondary School science lessons.
* Ensure compliance with Australian Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards and relevant regulations.
* Keep MSDS sheets and risk assessments updated and modified for requested practical activities.
* Undertake training as required to maintain up‑to‑date skills and compliance.
* Assist in compiling budgetary requirements for the delivery of quality Science education.
* Maintain a clean, safe, and well‑organised laboratory and preparation area.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Previous experience in a school laboratory or scientific environment is highly desirable.
* Qualifications in Laboratory Techniques, Science, or a related discipline preferred.
* Sound knowledge of chemical handling and laboratory safety practices.
* Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative approach.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with school systems advantageous.
* Current First Aid Certificate, Working With Children Check, and National Police Clearance.
