Primary objective
Lead the delivery of the Northern Territory Government’s (NTG) vehicle, plant and equipment replacement and disposal programs. Apply
strong commercial judgement and contemporary procurement practice to meet client agency operational needs, maximise sale returns,
and achieve cost-effective, fit-for-purpose outcomes.
Context statement
NT Fleet manages the light and heavy fleet for most NTG agencies. It oversees the purchase, lease, maintenance and disposal of vehicles
and equipment. Vehicles are leased at commercial rates, with a focus on safe, reliable and fit-for-purpose assets which deliver value for
money across their lifecycle.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Initiate and provide accurate advice and reporting to the Fleet Operations Manager on a range of matters related to the effective and
efficient acquisition, disposal and accident management of NTG fleet vehicles.
2. Plan and coordinate replacement programs for light and heavy vehicles, plant and equipment to meet service requirements, budget
and timeframes.
3. Lead specifications, fit-outs and equipment selections to ensure value-for-money and fitness-for-purpose outcomes.
4. Ensuring a coordinated approach of vehicles for auction to meet bi-monthly cash flow and auction schedules.
5. Supporting the Fleet Operations Manager in the strategic and operational aspects of end-to-end procurement and contract
management.
6. Contribute to policies, procedures and guidelines for the use of government vehicles including the NT Fleet Driver Handbook.
7. Ensure services delivered by the team are aligned to agreed Service Statement and identify opportunities to streamline processes.
8. Responsible for overseeing the timely registration of the light and heavy vehicles fleet, including the issuing of fuel cards.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated ability to lead staff, manage suppliers, and ensure regulatory compliance, including under the Motor Vehicle Act (NT).
2. Proven experience delivering results in complex operational environments such as fleet, logistics, transport, or asset management, with
strong knowledge of procurement, contract, and project management.
3. High-level communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence, negotiate and build trusted relationships
across all levels of government and industry.
4. Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, including the ability to interpret data, monitor performance, manage risk, and improve
system controls.
5. Highly organised and self-directed, with the ability to manage competing priorities, deliver multiple projects and take accountability
for outcomes.
6. Advanced skills in office-based systems, and experience working with large data sets.
7. Current NT “C Class” driver’s license or equivalent.
8. Demonstrated work ethics and attitude which emulate DCDD values of commitment to service, innovation, ethical practice,
accountability, impartiality, diversity, and respect.
Desirable
1. Qualifications in procurement, contract management, project management, business or related discipline, or equivalent demonstrated
experience.
