Industrial Engineer – Operations & Systems
Consultex is a Melbourne-based consultancy that partners with small to medium enterprises to improve efficiency and system performance. We specialise in streamlining business operations, redesigning workflows, and implementing ERP/CRM/field-service solutions that enable sustainable growth.
The Opportunity
We are seeking an Industrial Engineer to join our team. This role will suit someone who enjoys analysing processes, working with people on the ground, and translating operational needs into practical system and workflow improvements. You will work across a variety of industries and projects, ensuring clients achieve measurable gains in productivity, quality, and service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Analyse client operations using workflow mapping, time-and-motion studies, and bottleneck analysis, recommending and implementing improved processes with documented procedures and standard operating methods.
Assess workload balance, capacity utilisation, and service delivery; develop inventory control models such as Kanban and safety stock, and assist clients in building supplier performance metrics.
Translate operational requirements into ERP/CRM/field-service system workflows, supporting fit–gap analysis, configuration, data migration, user acceptance testing, and go live activities to ensure smooth adoption and automation where feasible.
Build and maintain client dashboards using tools such as Power BI or Looker Studio, defining KPIs for lead times, utilisation, work-in-progress, and service-level outcomes to enable accurate monitoring and reporting.
Apply structured problem-solving techniques to identify issues and drive improvements, implementing corrective actions, quality controls, and practical solutions to reduce rework and service failures. Facilitate workshops and improvement sessions, developing training materials and guides to help client teams embed process and system improvements into daily operations.
Manage project activities, timelines, and risks for client engagements, providing progress updates, tracking benefits against agreed targets, and conducting post-implementation reviews to confirm value delivery.
Skills & Experience
A Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering or a closely related discipline.
At least 3 years' experience in process improvement, operations, or systems implementation.
Working knowledge of continuous improvement methods such as Lean or Six Sigma.
Hands-on experience with ERP/CRM systems or workflow management platforms. Strong data analysis skills, with proficiency in Excel and exposure to BI tools (Power BI or Looker Studio).
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both operational staff and senior management.
